About the Role

The City of Pomona Police Department is seeking a part-time Technical Specialist - Social Media to join the Public Information Office. The role involves creating engaging social media content, supporting communication efforts, and helping keep the community connected. The position offers an opportunity for creative storytelling and design in a meaningful and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, review, draft, deploy, reply, monitor and make recommendations for social media content including, but not limited to; City and Police Department website, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram.
  • Write social media captions, news releases, and talking points.
  • Assist with photography and video production; create short and long formatted videos for social media.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of social media strategies and campaigns.
  • Assist in the administration and maintenance of the City and Police Department website.
  • Promote City and Police Department events, activities, facilities, and other special projects.
  • Monitor posts and comments for social media accounts.
  • Support Police Department Staff in the development of news releases, special events, flyers/brochures, community announcements, project-based communications, or other communication methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in digital media, multimedia design, graphic/digital design, marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, basic computer functions including Microsoft Office Suite, internet navigation, general office equipment, electronic correspondence and telephone systems; video production equipment and basic photography.
  • Thorough knowledge of social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook; experience in developing/sharing videos via social media.
  • Detail oriented and reliable.
  • Skill to operate modern office equipment and Microsoft software particularly Word, Excel and Access.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once; work independently and strategically; exercise patience and professionalism.
  • Ability to develop and implement print, broadcast and social media strategies.
  • Interpret complex regulatory and industry content and relay using lay terms for broad and diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in video production and social media content creation.
  • Knowledge of electronic correspondence and telephone systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Benefits & Perks

  • Part-time position averaging 20 hours per week.
  • Hourly wage between $19.33 and $36.94.
