About the Role

The Senior Copywriter at Walmart Creative Studio is responsible for crafting compelling copy that resonates with customers, collaborating with creative teams, and supporting business goals through strategic storytelling. The role is based on-site in Los Angeles, CA, within Walmart's in-house creative agency, which develops omnichannel creative content to meet customer needs and drive business objectives while keeping the brand relevant in culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Composing copy that gets to the heart of who our customers are and inspiring them across various topics, assets, and channel types.
  • Collaborating with and mentoring copywriters to improve skills and performance.
  • Gaining a deep understanding of brand principles, tone, voice, and style guides, and applying that understanding to craft copy supporting business goals.
  • Managing multiple copy projects independently across different timelines with varying complexity and importance.
  • Meeting copy deadlines in coordination with project management, account management, and creative teams.
  • Preparing well-structured drafts that are on-brief, meet the 3 C's (Conversational, Captivating, Confident), and demonstrate research skills.
  • Collaborating with Design and other team members to develop creative solutions for business objectives.
  • Using critical thinking to translate marketing initiatives into concise, compelling copy.
  • Making edits based on feedback from partners including marketers, editors, legal, and copy leadership.
  • Approaching feedback with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Contributing to the evolution of the brand tone of voice and copy style guide.
  • Participating in project kick-offs and follow-up meetings, asking proactive questions, and explaining creative choices.
  • Considering character limitations and design constraints when creating copy and partnering with editors to resolve issues.
  • Ensuring error-free copy, participating in QA phases, and conducting audits to identify errors.
  • Staying informed on industry, media, and technology trends relevant to retail and marketing.
  • Covering copy projects for colleagues during PTO or sick days as needed.
  • Acting as a proxy for copy leadership in meetings and communications.
  • Assisting in creating and documenting team processes and tools.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude, working autonomously, and adapting quickly to changing business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Creative Writing, Advertising, or related field.
  • 5+ years of copywriting experience.
  • 3+ years of experience copywriting for an e-commerce brand.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaborate closely.
  • Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to do necessary tasks to complete projects.
  • Proactive, comfortable with ambiguity, and flexible with shifting needs.
  • High emotional intelligence and strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage expectations across diverse partners.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Content Management Systems.
  • Managing interactive projects in an online creative or digital field.
  • Experience working for or with creative agencies.
  • Proficiency in Design Software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, including advanced functions like multi-layer masking and compositing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Marketing, Creative Writing, Advertising, Fine Arts, or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in interactive design, editorial content management, or related field, OR 3 years of experience in the same areas.
