About the Role

The Associate Director for Alumni Annual Fund Marketing is an integral part of a well-organized and collaborative Alumni Annual Fund (AAF) team at Carleton College. This role involves developing and executing communication strategies to support alumni fundraising efforts, fostering engagement through various channels, and collaborating with campus partners to achieve an annual fundraising goal of over $11 million from alumni, parents, and friends of the college. The position requires some travel, evening, and weekend work, and offers a full-time, benefit-eligible schedule with a salary range between $75,800 and $78,400.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop solicitation and stewardship communications across diverse channels (email, direct mail, digital platforms) to articulate the impact of the Annual Alumni Fund and encourage giving.
  • Design and implement a strategic digital marketing presence for the AAF, optimizing social media campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the AAF Director and College Communications' Marketing Strategist to establish messaging frameworks for each fiscal year.
  • Consult with the DAR Communications Manager to ensure messaging aligns with the broader communication calendar and strategic priorities.
  • Create outreach message templates and toolkits to support volunteer communication efforts.
  • Analyze solicitation data to develop strategic recommendations for improving solicitation and segmentation strategies.
  • Track and evaluate donor retention and acquisition metrics to inform strategic decisions.
  • Monitor national trends in annual giving and benchmark AAF performance against peer institutions.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fiscal year AAF communications strategy across multiple channels.
  • Partner with campus units to align messaging and identify cost-sharing opportunities for print and digital materials.
  • Maintain strong partnerships with campus stakeholders to ensure coordinated campaign execution.
  • Serve as the primary campus point person for the GiveCampus digital fundraising platform and oversee its integration into campaigns.
  • Lead the lifecycle of communication projects, including print materials and event support materials, managing vendor relationships.
  • Engage with campus colleagues to gather information on academic and student support services and translate this into compelling content for solicitations and volunteer communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.).
  • 3-5 years of experience in content creation, messaging, marketing project management, communications, or non-profit fundraising.
  • Strong interest in developing organizational messaging that fosters engagement, philanthropy, and volunteerism.
  • Enthusiasm for working within a volunteer-driven program.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the College's liberal arts mission and inclusion, diversity, and equity goals.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation for planning purposes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, with some evening and weekend work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with digital communication and project management tools such as Slate, ThankView, GiveCampus, Emma, Asana, and Canva.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Illustrator) and Adobe Premiere is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
