About the Role

The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Bagel Brands is a key leader within the organization, responsible for developing and executing the company's branding, digital/social, performance marketing, menu, advertising, and public relations strategies to drive profitable sales. Reporting to the President & CEO and a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CMO will lead a team of 27 and oversee a significant marketing budget, aiming to increase brand relevance, market share, and consumer engagement across multiple channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bringing tremendous energy and creativity to unlock the brand's relevance to maximize its full potential
  • Delivering profitable sales growth through all branding and communications activities
  • Creating a buzz-worthy brand strategy rooted in innovation, calculated risk-taking, and quick-to-market actions
  • Providing thought leadership and strategic contributions to the company's Executive Leadership Team; participating in developing and executing annual, mid-, and long-range planning
  • Evolving and fine-tuning the brand's competitive position across all consumer touchpoints and communication channels
  • Leading and developing a team of 27 people, including managing seven direct reports and a +$10 million annual marketing budget
  • Creating and implementing an annual marketing calendar to drive in-store traffic, increase frequency, and grow market share and profitability
  • Evaluating and executing marketing communication channels including traditional and new media, digital marketing, social media, mobile marketing, field marketing, and CRM/loyalty
  • Overseeing and providing briefs for all creative, media, web, CRM, and PR agencies, ensuring an integrated media strategy
  • Leading the e-commerce strategy, reinforcing and digitizing the traditional ordering process through delivery, catering, and order ahead
  • Measuring the performance of all activities and campaigns against goals (ROI, KPIs) and adjusting strategies accordingly
  • Enhancing research, consumer analytics, and insights to inform menu development, promotions, and LTOs
  • Leading and growing the consumer-packaged goods business, a $30M channel to increase consumer awareness
  • Overseeing and evolving the guest experience team responsible for responding to guest inquiries and analyzing feedback for operational insights

Requirements

  • A proven ability to develop an omnichannel marketing strategy to drive sales growth and consumer loyalty
  • Success as a thought partner to senior leadership, with a passion for Bagel Brands and willingness to challenge the status quo
  • A business/capacity growth mentality with a big vision for marketing and the ability to act quickly to remain relevant
  • Experience in the restaurant industry and companies of comparable size in revenues and unit count is strongly preferred
  • Mastery of digital and social marketing strategies with a deep understanding of the landscape
  • Ability to build consumer awareness and maintain existing customer loyalty, especially for growing concepts and brands
  • Curiosity and continued learning about the consumer/restaurant landscape
  • A consumer-centric approach using insights, data, and analytics to drive marketing
  • Leadership qualities including development, communication, and leading change
  • Strong interpersonal skills with high emotional IQ and experience working with franchisees
  • Career rotations through various marketing disciplines such as brand, performance, digital, social, field, promotions, consumer insights, advertising, or media
  • Strong project management, delegation, and time management skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for managing multiple projects
  • A Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, journalism, or equivalent, or at least ten years of related experience; an advanced degree is preferred
  • Ability to relocate to Denver and travel approximately 25%

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the restaurant industry and companies of similar size in revenues and unit count
  • Experience with retail transformation and single-shift models
  • Experience leading a consumer-packaged goods business

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, journalism, or equivalent
  • Minimum of ten years related experience and/or training
  • Advanced degree preferred
