About the Role

The Community Social Media Coordinator at Best Friends Animal Society in Houston, TX, is responsible for managing and growing the organization's social channels, engaging with communities, and supporting the organization's mission to end pet homelessness. The role involves collaboration across teams, content creation, community building, and staying current with social media trends to promote animal welfare and organizational campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow the Houston Lifesaving Center's social media channels and contribute to the national Spanish social channels.
  • Engage with online communities through comments, messages, and positive conversations about the organization, campaigns, and events.
  • Maintain the Houston social media editorial calendar and content planning platform to define communication strategies and track metrics.
  • Collaborate with digital, creative, marketing, and other teams to align social media campaigns and ensure cohesive messaging.
  • Attend events as assigned to increase social media engagement and visibility.
  • Respond to comments and inbox messages, working with PR and social teams to handle sensitive topics and emergencies.
  • Stay updated on social media trends and implement current strategies to keep Best Friends at the forefront of social media engagement.
  • Work with teams to develop programmatic stories and maintain event listings for social channels.
  • Utilize social media insights and engagement platforms to monitor content performance and campaign success.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive culture within the team and organization, representing the organization's values and voice.

Requirements

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with social media channels and content editing platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Outlook and Teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and adapt quickly to new trends and technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, diplomatic, and customer-centric approach.
  • Comfort working with dogs and cats of various temperaments.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license for travel within Houston.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Nice to Have

  • Client service experience.
  • Experience with social video content editing platforms and programs.
  • Experience in public speaking, presentations, or advocacy.

  • Valid driver's license.
