Community Social Media Coordinator - Houston, TX (Part-Time, Temporary)

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Treats people with kindness and compassion, builds trust by demonstrating authenticity, and works to build strong relationships with colleagues.
• Increase overall engagement of the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Houston with both English and Spanish speaking communities.
• Contributes content to national Best Friends Spanish social channels.
• Engages with members and supporters in positive, thoughtful online conversations about the organization, campaigns, storytelling, events, and videos.
• Maintains Houston social media editorial calendar and content planning platform to define communication strategy and track metrics.
• Collaborates with digital, creative, marketing, and corporate partners to align campaigns across channels.
• Responds to comments, inbox messages, and works with the social and PR teams to craft responses for sensitive subjects and emergencies.
• Stays updated on current social media trends to ensure Best Friends remains at the forefront of social strategy.
• Collaborates with the Houston team and community engagement coordinator to develop programmatic stories and maintain event listings.
• Works with teams across the organization to foster a collaborative culture and cohesive social media strategy.
• Communicates using the Best Friends voice and adheres to social media policies and brand guidelines.
• Utilizes social media insights and engagement platforms to track content performance and campaign metrics.
• May perform other duties as assigned to grow social channels' audience and increase engagement.

Requirements

• Bilingual speaker and writer, fluent in English and Spanish preferred.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to engaging with diverse backgrounds.
• Strong interpersonal skills, upbeat, energetic, diplomatic, and a team player.
• Demonstrates tact with confidential and sensitive information.
• Comfortable working with dogs and cats of various temperaments.
• Proficiency with social video content editing platforms and programs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Outlook and Teams.
• Proficiency with the breadth of social media channels.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems creatively and collaboratively.
• Self-starter with the ability to operate at a detailed level and lead complex projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new channels, technologies, and trends.
• Ability to speak publicly and advocate for Best Friends' position on issues.
• Reliable transportation to travel within Houston, including public transportation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel, including overnight stays when needed.
• Work may include weekends, nights, and holidays, and extended periods working on a computer.
