About the Role

The Community Social Media Coordinator at Best Friends Animal Society is responsible for managing and growing the organization's social channels in Houston, including engaging with the community, creating content, and collaborating with internal teams to meet organizational goals. The role involves working with both English and Spanish-speaking audiences, attending events, and ensuring alignment with national messaging and social media strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Increase overall engagement of the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Houston with both the English and Spanish speaking communities within Houston.
  • Contribute content to national BF Spanish social channels.
  • Engage with members and potential supporters in positive, thoughtful online conversations about the organization, campaigns, storytelling, events, and videos.
  • Maintain Houston social media editorial calendar and content planning platform to define optimal communications strategy and track metrics on social channels.
  • Work collaboratively with digital, creative, marketing, and corporate partners to sync with other department calendars for alignment and optimal multichannel campaign performance.
  • Respond to comments, inbox messages, and work with the social and PR teams to craft responses dealing with sensitive subjects and emergencies.
  • Stay abreast of and implement current social media trends to ensure Best Friends remains at the forefront of social strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Houston team and community engagement coordinator to cultivate programmatic stories for social channels and maintain event listings.
  • Work with teams across the organization to foster a collaborative culture and an integrated, cohesive social media strategy.
  • Communicate using the Best Friends voice and all established guidelines around social media policies and brand guidelines.
  • Utilize social media insights and engagement platforms to track content performance and campaign metrics.
  • Attend events (chosen by supervisor) to increase engagement on social channels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to grow social channels' audience, increase engagement, and build community.

Requirements

  • Bilingual speaker and writer, fluent in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to people and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, upbeat, energetic, and diplomatic.
  • Demonstrate tact with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Comfortable working with handling and being in the presence of dogs and cats of various temperaments.
  • Proficiency with social video content editing platforms and programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Outlook and Teams.
  • Proficiency with the breadth of social media channels.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and collaboratively.
  • Self-starter with ability to operate at a hands-on detailed level, lead on complicated projects, and anticipate strategies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new channels, technologies, and trends.
  • Ability to speak on and professionally advocate for Best Friends' position on issues, including public speaking and presentations.
  • Reliable transportation to travel within Houston, including public transportation.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to qualify for Best Friends insurance.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Physical ability to work at a computer or drive for extended periods, with repetitive typing and arm/hand motion.
  • Willingness to work in environments with exposure to dogs, cats, and other animals.
