About the Role

The Digital Matters Assistant at the University of Utah seeks a candidate to assist in the daily operations of building a digital humanities and digital scholarship program, at the intersection of technology and the humanities. The role involves coordinating programming, supporting events, conducting outreach, documenting policies, and assisting with communication and logistics within the Marriott Library's Digital Matters initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the first point of contact, receive visitors, answer questions and direct queries to relevant parties.
  • Maintain the Digital Matters website, upload and update images, posts, blogs, and the event calendar.
  • Communicate and advertise to faculty, staff, and students on events, lectures, talks, workshops, and other DML activities.
  • Broadcast DML events on social media and take photos at events for communications purposes.
  • Maintain and update mailing lists and work with the Marriott Library Public Relations office on advertising, graphics, and flyers.
  • Coordinate and set up events, speaker series, workshops, exhibitions, showcases, reading groups, and classes.
  • Book rooms, vendors, and/or caterers as needed, and communicate with visiting lecturers and guests.
  • Maintain and update the number of participants at events and track applications for internal grants and fellowships.
  • Work with administrative leadership to document policy and procedure.

Requirements

  • Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled in 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during fall and spring semesters.
  • Good sense of priorities and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Skills in PC and/or MAC-based software and systems.
  • Skills in Word, Excel, Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems such as WordPress and web editing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and capability with information technology systems in an academic library context.
  • Reading, writing, or speaking skills in a second language (preferred).

Nice to Have

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment at the University of Utah in at least 6 undergraduate or 5 graduate credit hours during fall and spring semesters.
