About the Role

The North Carolina Zoo is seeking a Digital Media Specialist to join our team. This position provides digital media and communications analytical support, assessing data, planning, developing, and executing communication strategies that promote the Zoo and its programs to the public. The role involves managing digital marketing efforts, interpreting analytics, and developing content for online platforms to elevate the Zoo's messaging and public perception. The position works within the Communications team, collaborating with various staff and management to enhance the Zoo's outreach and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and execute strategies for optimizing digital media marketing to maximize traffic and engagement using creative marketing placement, analytics, research to reach identified target audiences.
  • Routinely capture and analyze engagement data, metrics, insights, and best practices, and use that information to advise future marketing strategy.
  • Monitor online and marketing performance, network with professionals and influencers, and respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Plan, submit, and maintain digital and traditional calendars with up-to-date information on Zoo events, collaborating with internal teams to promote mission-based activities or programs.
  • Assist with implementation and execution of communication activities such as special events, media tours, press releases, newsletters, blogs, media alerts, ads, social media, and website copy.
  • Cross-train to support digital asset management (photos, videos, audio) and assist the creative team with production tasks including locating or compiling images and video footage.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience creating and executing effective digital marketing strategies to optimize audience engagement.
  • Ability to plan, produce, and publish ads, copy, and other creative content according to strategic cross-channel calendars.
  • Experience managing paid ad campaigns on social media, Google, and other platforms.
  • Ability to capture, analyze, and report on performance metrics, insights, and best practices to guide marketing strategies.
  • Working experience with digital software for creating and editing digital content and managing multimedia materials.
  • Excellent writing skills adhering to correct English usage and media standards.
  • Knowledge of journalistic and communication principles for public dissemination.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, media journalism, English, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and publish a variety of digital content.
  • Experience working with digital software for content creation and editing.
  • Experience managing and organizing multimedia materials such as photos and videos.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience in related communications or publicity work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
