About the Role

BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Business Development and Strategic Campaigns to support the Platforms and Services (P&S) Sector. The role involves defining strategy, driving customer interaction, and leading key capture teams to win business in submarine fabrication across P&S business units. The position reports to the P&S VP of Business Development, Strategy, and Planning, and is ideally located near P&S HQ in Falls Church, VA, with regular travel to sites including Louisville, Norfolk, and Jacksonville. The role requires 25%-50% travel to US Navy and submarine prime contractor locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs and directs the capture strategy and positions the team to win.
  • Focuses on big picture solutions and remains prospect focused.
  • Applies knowledge of proposal development, guides solutions, and remains knowledgeable on price to win strategies, customers, competitors, products, services, and people in the Defense industrial base.
  • Leads the business case analysis, develops and implements the capture plan, and executes the win strategy by leading a matrixed cross functional team.
  • Manages and communicates with stakeholders as part of a campaign-like environment.
  • Is ultimately responsible for winning opportunities and managing pursuits through contract award.
  • Understands and applies principles of life cycle management, phase reviews, color reviews, competitor intelligence analysis, and strategy development.
  • Oversees the execution of the capture plan and alignment with program plans.
  • Interfaces regularly with senior customers, providing strategy, talking points, and support to senior leaders engaging with customers and stakeholders.
  • Understands the defense acquisitions system and aligns campaigns with program milestones.
  • Initiates proposal activities, presentations, and briefings.
  • Recommends and monitors Internal Research and Development (IR&D) activities aligned with customer requirements.
  • Manages and controls budgets and expenses through sound techniques.
  • Supports submarine acquisition strategies by applying experience working with submarine primes and understanding of the US Navy submarine fleet.
  • Provides recurring reports including monthly activity summaries and responses to data calls for management reviews.
  • Ensures compliance with all BAE Systems policies and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Shares responsibility for self-development with immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of work experience or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience in Business Development, Capture Management, or similar roles.
  • Experience in Strategy/Proposal Development.
  • Experience in Team Leadership and Cross-functional alignment.
  • Experience in Defense (DoD) with knowledge of Defense Acquisitions System.
  • Knowledge of customers, competitors, products, services, and people in the submarine industrial base.
  • Knowledge of submarine prime contractors and networks.
  • Knowledge of the US Navy submarine fleet and submarine acquisition strategies.
  • Knowledgeable of price to win strategies.
  • Ability to support strategic planning, competitor intelligence analysis, solution development, and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to focus on the big picture and remain prospect focused.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with customers, industry partners, and teammates.
  • Ability to interface with senior levels of government and internal executives.
  • Strong collaboration and team building skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
