Job Description

About the Role

This strategic role is responsible for leading marketing efforts across two distinct yet interconnected pillars for Urban Decay: Driving the growth and market share of the Face+ Innovation category globally, with a primary emphasis on deep understanding and strong performance within the US market. Overseeing the development and execution of China-exclusive projects, deeply rooted in local consumer insights and strategic partnerships within the Chinese market. The Director will align global brand vision with specific market needs, driving category growth, market share, and consumer engagement by developing and implementing comprehensive 360-degree marketing plans for both spheres of responsibility. This position requires a strategic leader with a profound understanding of both the global (especially US) and Chinese beauty markets, strong business acumen, and proven experience in building and managing high-performing marketing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies for Urban Decay's global Face+ Innovation category, ensuring alignment with global brand guidelines and L'Oréal's overarching business goals.
  • Lead the strategic development and execution of China-exclusive projects, ensuring they are authentically tailored to the Chinese consumer and cultural nuances, contributing to L'Oréal Luxe's growth in China.
  • Continuously analyze global and Chinese markets, competitive activities, and performance to identify emerging trends and adjust strategies to capitalize on promising business opportunities within both the Face+ Innovation space and China-specific initiatives.
  • Act as a key advisor to senior management, influencing critical decisions and shaping the overall direction of Urban Decay's marketing efforts across these dual responsibilities.
  • Oversee the planning, development, and execution of all marketing programs for the Global Face+ Innovation category, including 360-degree launch plans, creative development, and activation strategies designed for a broad global audience, with strong consideration for the US market launch and subsequent global rollout.
  • Direct the planning, development, and execution of all marketing programs for China-exclusive products and initiatives, including localized 360-degree launch plans, content creation, and activation tailored specifically for the Chinese consumer across online and offline channels.
  • Manage the development of the marketing 'panier' (product portfolio), contributing to category growth within both the global Face+ space and the China market.
  • Work closely with Global Product Development teams to drive product vision, benefits, and messaging for the Face+ Innovation category based on global insights, ensuring strong commercial viability and global appeal.
  • Collaborate with Global and China-based Product Development teams to champion and localize products within the China-exclusive project portfolio, ensuring they meet specific local demands and preferences.
  • Lead the liaison between all cross-functional teams (e.g., sales, digital, retail, PR) within global headquarters and within China, building and maintaining strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in both markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of extensive marketing experience, with significant leadership experience within the beauty, luxury goods, or FMCG industry.
  • Deep understanding of the US beauty market, consumer trends, and competitive landscape, especially in facial skincare/makeup innovation.
  • Strong knowledge of the Chinese consumer, cultural nuances, and digital landscape, including e-commerce and social media platforms.
  • Proven ability to set compelling commercial direction and develop strong plans in collaboration with sales leadership across global and China-specific markets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in using data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin (Mandarin preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing marketing teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Nice to Have

  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese.

Benefits & Perks

  • Salary range: $128,000 - $180,000 base plus bonus.
