About the Role

The Director of Marketing Management is a strategic, results-driven marketing leader responsible for leading the end-to-end marketing strategy, execution, and team leadership for Nationwide's Group Benefits business. This role involves driving growth, brand equity, and customer engagement by aligning marketing efforts with business goals, managing budgets, and fostering a high-performing team in a hybrid work environment based in Columbus, OH.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary marketing leader for the Group Benefits business, responsible for aligning marketing strategy with business goals and delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Leads the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies based on customer insights, business priorities, and sales alignment.
  • Champions the brand identity of Stop Loss and Voluntary Benefits across all touchpoints, ensuring consistent messaging and market positioning.
  • Translates business objectives into actionable marketing plans that drive acquisition, retention, and engagement.
  • Synthesizes data, market intelligence, and internal knowledge to inform strategy and identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Defines, manages, and optimizes the marketing budget to ensure strategic investments and ROI.
  • Builds, leads, and inspires a high-performing marketing team, providing coaching, professional development, and performance management.
  • Acts as a strategic partner to senior leaders across Sales & Distribution, Product, Finance, and other functions to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Oversees team responsible for leading projects and processes within the area of responsibility to deliver results on multiple targets and priorities.
  • Reviews and analyzes customer insights, analytics, and tools to forecast market, competitor, and customer needs.
  • Develops strong creative briefs and provides feedback on creative development and marketing tactics.
  • Monitors emerging trends in content, design, and marketing tactics to incorporate innovative approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, or related field; graduate degree preferred.
  • Typically 10 or more years of professional experience in marketing, insurance, or related field.
  • Previous management or project leadership experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of marketing methodologies, distribution systems, and customers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance and/or financial services products is strongly preferred.
  • Command of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and prioritize projects and develop research studies.
  • Experience in leading B2B or B2B2C marketing for complex or regulated products, with insurance or financial services experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of project leadership concepts and methodologies.
  • Ability to develop and review research findings, present market recommendations, and negotiate contracts.

Nice to Have

  • Technical insurance designations such as CPCU, CLU, ChFC, FLMI.
  • Additional licensing such as FINRA Series 6 and 26.
  • Graduate degree such as Master's or Doctoral degree.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, or related field.
  • Typically 10+ years of professional experience in marketing, insurance, or related field.
