About the Role

BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Business Development for Naval Guns and Launcher products within their Combat Mission Systems (CMS) business. The role involves leading business and market development efforts for naval guns and launcher markets, growing market share and volume to diversify the company's Weapons Systems portfolio. The position offers a hybrid work environment with remote and onsite work primarily in the Falls Church, VA area, and involves travel to customer sites and corporate meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the overall Business Development lead for the Naval Guns product area focused on the US Navy customer set
  • Grow the opportunity pipeline, including existing and adjacent markets/customers, through diligent identification and qualification of new business opportunities by leveraging technologies, customer relationships, and inter-company collaboration
  • Support the development and execution of strategic and tactical plans for pursuing and capturing key opportunities, including future navy gun systems
  • Work with product area leadership to advise on leads, opportunities, resources, and potential changes needed
  • Identify and qualify new business development opportunities to enhance the company's business portfolio
  • Obtain marketing intelligence and competitive data related to potential pursuits and develop marketing strategies
  • Maintain close customer relationships, understanding their needs and shaping customer requirements
  • Assess competitor capabilities aligned with specific customers in the market space
  • Support capture efforts by providing market, competitor, and customer intelligence, supporting color teams, and recommending resources to address gaps
  • Make informed recommendations on pursuit and bid decisions
  • Support the creation and execution of multi-year business development strategies
  • Inform internal investment planning and overhead budgets
  • Provide inputs to the US BD director to help develop and adjust the business strategy
  • Provide written and verbal reports on the status of leads, opportunities, and capture efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of experience or equivalent experience
  • Active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Experience in Business Development in Defense, Government Contracting, or similar fields
  • Experience in Defense (DoD) Acquisition, including US Navy budget development and requirement setting processes
  • Knowledge of naval weapons and surface warfare, including technical knowledge, concepts of operations, doctrine, and modernization industry teams
  • Understanding of U.S. Government export rules and regulations such as EAR and ITAR, and Foreign Military Sales regulations
  • Excellent networking skills with the ability to build long-term customer relationships
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in ad hoc teams and groups
  • Ability to clearly articulate business opportunities both written and verbal; multi-lingual skills desired
  • Excellent communication, listening, research, analytical, and negotiating skills
  • A creative problem solver
  • Willingness to take ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure
