About the Role

The Director of Development & Marketing is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive fundraising strategy focused on increasing philanthropic revenue through individual giving, major gifts, grants, and events. The role also leads the agency's marketing and communications strategy to elevate donor engagement, visibility, and brand alignment. The position supervises development and communications staff, oversees performance goals, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure fundraising success and strategic communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a multi-faceted fundraising strategy encompassing individual and major gifts, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, and events.
  • Establish and manage revenue goals, donor cultivation benchmarks, and reporting metrics in alignment with agency priorities.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of high-level donors and prospects through all phases of the donor cycle (identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship).
  • Partner with CEO and executive team on major gifts, funder relations, and campaign strategies.
  • Ensure accurate donor records, reports, and segmentation strategies through effective database management and CRM oversight.
  • Lead fundraising event strategy, execution, and post-event donor stewardship in partnership with development staff and the Events Planning Team.
  • Oversee digital and print marketing efforts to support fundraising and visibility goals, including the agency website, email campaigns, newsletters, and social media.
  • Guide the creation of donor-centered communications including impact reports, appeals, campaign materials, and acknowledgments.
  • Supervise a growing team of development and marketing staff, providing leadership, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Represent ICAN at external meetings, events, and donor gatherings to strengthen relationships and build visibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in development, marketing, and/or communications.
  • Demonstrated success in leading fundraising campaigns and cultivating donor relationships.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit branding, storytelling, and audience engagement.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendors, and creative teams.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms (e.g., DonorPerfect, Bloomerang), email marketing tools (Constant Contact), Project Management Software (Wrike), and content management systems.
  • Ability to attend off-site meetings and events as required.
  • A valid NYS Driver's License is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, website CMS platforms, and social media management tools.
  • Strong comfort with email marketing, graphic creation, and digital content scheduling.
