About the Role

The Director of Development & Marketing is responsible for building a comprehensive marketing and development plan, collateral, digital media strategy, and managing the day-to-day marketing and communication needs of Independence House Inc. This role focuses on donor acquisition and fundraising, events, annual giving, major gifts, and corporate and foundation giving. As a member of the leadership team, the position aims to raise funds and increase brand awareness for programs supporting domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. The director will manage budgets, oversee fundraising efforts, and lead a team of volunteers, reporting to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. The role is primarily in-person with potential virtual work after 12 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy to increase annual giving, build relationships with corporate partners, and deepen community engagement.
  • Manage donor stewardship, gift entry, acknowledgments, and database management, including donor research.
  • Research new revenue sources such as local, state, foundation, and national grants.
  • Lead and evaluate the PAVE Program and coordinate anniversary and milestone activities.
  • Manage and train volunteers, including recruiting, engaging, recognizing, and providing on-site guidance.
  • Coordinate in-kind donations and solicit donations for various programs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate marketing strategies across multiple audiences.
  • Oversee the organization's brand in all communications, including website, social media, print, and electronic media.
  • Lead marketing efforts to drive engagement, produce content, and establish the organization as a thought leader.
  • Manage media relationships, including social media platforms, and coordinate newsletters and brochures.
  • Plan and execute events such as the Teddy Bear Breakfast, Holiday Giving Program, and awareness months.
  • Advocate for the mission of Independence House and represent the organization professionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field; master's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in development and/or direct marketing, including digital marketing and nonprofit fundraising.
  • Experience in grant writing and developing creative content for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with marketing and design software and donor database management.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead development projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with minimal errors.
  • Ability to work independently with strong time management and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers and staff, and work collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other relevant software.
  • Understanding of fundraising trends, market research, and business trends.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to participate in early morning, evening, and weekend events as needed.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with in-kind donation coordination.
  • Knowledge of the Four Rivers Region.
  • Experience in planning and leading large-scale fundraising campaigns or projects.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in development and/or direct marketing.
