About the Role

The Director of Marketing serves as the strategic lead for all marketing, communications, and brand initiatives at the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACEI) within the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee. This position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive marketing strategies to elevate ACEI's visibility, reputation, and impact locally, nationally, and internationally. The role involves overseeing all aspects of marketing efforts, including public relations, media outreach, digital and print communications, social media, event marketing, promotional campaigns, and brand management. The Director collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with strategic priorities, requiring a strategic mindset, leadership, project management skills, and a deep understanding of integrated marketing approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead content marketing and public relations strategies utilizing traditional and digital methods to position ACEI as a preeminent hub for entrepreneurship.
  • Create and execute content strategies that support marketing goals, generate awareness, and promote ACEI's initiatives, research, programs, and events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external community and corporate partners to enhance ACEI's visibility and credibility.
  • Distribute content marketing initiatives across all channels including social media, email, website, and search to drive traffic and engagement.
  • Write, produce, and oversee various types of content, including blog posts, social media posts, newsletters, and branded content, to expand ACEI's digital footprint.
  • Manage editorial content calendar, organize workflows, and coordinate with creative resources such as designers, writers, and videographers.
  • Lead and influence the ACEI team, including peers, faculty, and student ambassadors, fostering collaboration and leadership.
  • Develop relationships with UTK faculty, staff, and stakeholders to support ACEI's mission.
  • Create and maintain metrics reports on marketing activities, analyze data, and recommend optimizations to inform strategic decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in professional marketing and communications settings.
  • Strong understanding of marketing and communications best practices.
  • Experience as a people leader in results-driven organizations.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent news judgment, writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
  • Comfortable with day-to-day marketing activities and long-term strategy development.
  • In-depth knowledge of digital marketing channels, technologies, and content distribution.
  • Experience with marketing automation and CRM tools and system integration.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams including creative, digital, and video partners.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in reporting and data analysis.
  • Technically capable, excellent communicator, and process-oriented.
  • Ability to contribute to diversity and access goals of the university.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 8-10 years of marketing, content, and project management experience.
  • Experience in higher education settings and managing complex events and programs.
  • Familiarity with entrepreneurship field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing to drive visibility and engagement.

Qualifications

  • Educational background includes at least a Bachelor's degree; a Master's degree is preferred.
