About the Role

The Director of Social Media manages LSU's main social media accounts, oversees content creation and strategy, and supports university branding and communication efforts. The role involves working under pressure during crisis situations, guiding other social media accounts within the university, and leading a team of strategists and student assistants to enhance LSU's online presence and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages all of LSU's main social media accounts, including @LSU, @LSUPresident, and @LSUPolice, ensuring they rank highly nationally and in the Southeastern Conference.
  • Monitors social media accounts to provide customer service, report issues, and manage crisis communications as part of the university's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) team.
  • Researches and stays current on university events, social media trends, and technology to evaluate and improve social media reach and effectiveness.
  • Manages the social media strategist and team of paid student assistants responsible for content creation and account monitoring.
  • Plans and develops social media strategy, including content creation, advertising, and campaigns to support recruitment, retention, and university initiatives.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to faculty and staff managing other LSU-affiliated social media accounts, including training on social media protocols and account management.
  • Maintains and updates the LSU social media directory in collaboration with university units.
  • Issues guidance and posts social media messaging during crisis situations, including nights and weekends, and reports to the EOC as essential personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field, or relevant experience with the required years of experience.
  • 7+ years experience overseeing social media channels for a university or large organization.
  • Experience in social media, public relations, or content development for promotional purposes.

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree in Communications.
  • 10+ years experience overseeing social media channels for a university or large organization.

Qualifications

  • Degree is not mandatory if candidate has relevant experience and meets the required years of experience.
