About the Role

The Social Media Coordinator at the College of Charleston develops, implements, and executes strategies for the university's main social media channels. This role manages the integration of social media efforts with broader marketing campaigns to enhance the College's brand and support recruitment and retention goals. The position requires staying current with evolving social media trends, monitoring channels, engaging with audiences, and tracking emerging tools to ensure optimal use of social media for the university.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, coordinate, and execute social media strategies that promote the university to key audiences, including prospective students and families, enrolled students, alumni, donors, faculty, and staff, in alignment with institutional goals.
  • Update the editorial calendar with weekly posts for social media channels that support institutional priorities of recruitment, visibility, and engagement.
  • Track and manage key metrics and performance of all social channels.
  • Implement strategies for a variety of multimedia content providers throughout the campus community to ensure real-time access to high-quality organic content.
  • Work closely with the Director of Social Media to ensure all social content and messaging adhere to brand guidelines, maintain a consistent brand voice, and align with each platform's audience.
  • Collaborate with campus influencers and organizations to reach institutional priorities within the College admissions, recruitment, and retention cycle.
  • Stay current with industry trends and platform updates, identifying new opportunities to optimize content and drive engagement.
  • Create original digital content for marketing and communication platforms, including campus displays and kiosks, such as event promotions, achievements, slides, infographics, and photos.
  • Assist in training campus digital display managers to ensure adherence to policies and brand standards.
  • Report weekly on key metrics to measure social media and digital signage effectiveness.
  • Analyze stories and content to best represent the College's brand and priorities.
  • Monitor social media channels daily to identify emerging issues and stay informed on College-related posts and discussions.
  • Collaborate with campus offices and departments to integrate their social media tactics into the College’s overall strategy.
  • Support and train campus units on social media and marketing best practices.
  • Manage social media intern(s) and ambassador programs.
  • Coordinate with the Crisis Communications Team during emergencies to support messaging, ensure digital displays are updated with emergency info, and monitor social media during campus emergencies.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience involved with social media strategies and dynamic content creation.
  • Fluency with all major social media channels and proficiency with social planning/tracking tools and social listening tools.
  • Strong communication, writing, and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging digital and social media technologies and trends.
  • Ability to align social strategies with marketing and communication objectives to support the College’s brand and institutional goals.
  • Thorough understanding of digital/social media trends with success in developing content and programs that increase followers and engagement.
  • Ability to track and report on key metrics and implement improvements based on data.
  • Sensitivity to the values and procedures of an academic institution.
  • Availability for some evening and weekend work.
  • Ability to maintain strong campus connections and foster relationships with students and content creators.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in digital signage and campus digital display management.
  • Experience managing social media interns or ambassador programs.
  • Experience in crisis communication coordination.
