Job Description

About the Role

The internship is in the Social Media Section, Communications Campaigns Service, Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications. The section is responsible for social media activities of the Department of Global Communications and the integration of social media platforms, including social networking tools such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, which are critical components of the Department's communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of social media content, often under tight deadlines.
  • Monitor and analyze statistics related to social media content.
  • Gather social media content at special events (film screenings, concerts, exhibits, etc.).
  • Assist in the creation of original content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Attend meetings as an observer.
  • Manage meeting agendas and draft meeting notes.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with software programmes Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or graphic design programmes) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in taking digital photographs is desirable.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required.
  • Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or graphic design programmes).
  • Interest in taking digital photographs.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Applicants must list their area of study and provide proof at a later stage.
  • Applicants must provide an official certificate at a later stage.

  • Interns will need to provide all necessary hardware (computer), software and internet connection to perform the internship remotely.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
