About the Role

The Mainframe ZOS / DB2 Support Engineer role involves providing support and monitoring for mainframe and distributed systems, ensuring optimal performance, troubleshooting complex issues, and supporting scheduling and operational procedures. The position is remote within EST time zone, requiring overnight shift work, and is focused on maintaining IT infrastructure reliability and efficiency under the direction of Data Center Operations management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily monitoring of IT infrastructure and applications to ensure peak efficiency and reliability.
  • Serve as backup for Shift Lead, completing shift summaries for review and approval.
  • Provide real-time monitoring for Mainframe and Distributed systems to proactively detect and prevent service disruptions.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems through resolution.
  • Follow proper procedures for introducing changes and fixes into the operating environment and production libraries.
  • Notify Level 2 support teams as necessary.
  • Use system monitoring and diagnostic tools to ensure optimal performance of operating systems.
  • Initiate and coordinate HealthCheck calls for problem identification and resolution.
  • Create or alter jobs and job schedules across mainframe, Windows, and UNIX environments.
  • Perform job restarts with overrides and correct JCL syntax.
  • Monitor scheduler queues to ensure job completion and error correction.
  • Update scheduler base calendars for current processing and holiday schedules.
  • Support upgrades and new releases of applications, platforms, and scheduling tools.
  • Develop, update, and maintain operations manuals, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to establishing SLAs and performance metrics, monitoring against targets.
  • Provide timely information for audit requests and ensure compliance with security and audit regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance to IT Operations, Service Desk, and Application teams.
  • Offer 24/7 on-call support for assigned products and services.
  • Research, resolve, and recommend solutions for complex and critical systems issues.
  • Collect and analyze data and metrics for reporting.
  • Assist with daily system administration tasks for EDCS products and services.
  • Lead maintenance and upgrade efforts for EDCS products.
  • Collaborate with vendor support centers for troubleshooting.
  • Participate in disaster recovery and business resumption initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Mainframe DB2 Support.
  • Skills in DB2, CICS, JCL, z/OS.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science preferred.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Experience with mainframe and distributed system monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform job scheduling and manage job queues across multiple platforms.
  • Flexibility to work overnight shifts within the 6 pm - 6 am time range.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience supporting upgrades, releases, and system maintenance.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with EDCS products and services.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery/business resumption procedures.
  • Experience working with vendor technical support centers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science (preferred).
  • Additional relevant work experience if lacking a degree.
