About the Role

Simon & Schuster is a global leader in general interest publishing, dedicated to providing the best in fiction and nonfiction for readers of all ages, in all printed, digital, and audio formats. The company has a distinguished roster of authors and numerous well-known imprints and divisions. Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, is seeking a short-term Marketing Director to lead the marketing team during a 6-month leave of absence for the current director. The role involves managing campaigns for a range of bestselling and award-winning titles, collaborating across departments, and maintaining strong relationships with booksellers and librarians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team of seven marketers who work on 50-60 frontlist titles per season
  • Develop marketing plans and prepare selling materials
  • Communicate with authors and agents about campaign progress
  • Analyze campaign metrics and report on success and growth opportunities
  • Advise authors on growing their online and social media presence
  • Collaborate closely with publicity, editorial, advertising, video, and corporate marketing departments
  • Maintain strong relationships with independent booksellers and librarians
  • Oversee imprint social media channels and content, with an eye toward growth and engagement
  • Work closely with editors on acquisition opportunities, especially in relation to author platform assessment

Requirements

  • At least 6-8 years of experience in book publishing, marketing, brand management, or equivalent
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to present effectively and clearly in meetings
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Well-organized and able to prioritize and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Proven success in digital marketing, social media campaigns, and outreach
  • Creative and strategic thinker, assertive and persuasive
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Nice to Have

  • Experience in book marketing and management
  • Experience working with fiction and non-fiction titles
