About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Generate compelling story ideas from assignments, news leads, and community tips
• Conduct interviews and research to gather accurate information for reports
• Write engaging stories that adhere to proper editorial style and AP format
• Shoot professional-quality video and still photography to visually tell stories
• Edit video content for broadcast and digital platforms
• Appear on camera for taped segments and deliver live reports from the field
• Collaborate with news photographers when assigned to stories
• Support news producers in newscast preparation
• Work with the digital team to optimize stories for online platforms

Requirements

• BS/BA in Journalism, Communications or related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
• Generally, 3+ years of experience in journalism or related field preferred
• Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
• Ability to shoot video and edit on Final Cut Pro or similar systems
• Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment
• Computer literacy including newsroom systems
• Proficiency in posting content to various websites
• Self-motivation and ability to thrive in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Curiosity about the Great Falls community and Montana issues
• Valid Driver's License, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with required limits

Nice to Have

• Experience with broadcast-quality camera equipment
• Proficiency in editing software like Final Cut Pro
• Knowledge of digital content optimization

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Journalism, Communications or related discipline (preferred)
• 3+ years of journalism experience (preferred)
