Job Description

About the Role

This position serves as a Marketing Development Specialist in the department's Farm-to-Family program for the development and expansion of markets for Michigan food and agricultural commodities. This position promotes the Farm-to-Family Program. The position acts as an expert resource for small and medium sized growers and food businesses promoting and facilitating market development at various points along Michigan-origin agri-food supply chains. The specialist will develop strategic plans for market opportunities, manage execution, and serve as a liaison between buyers, MDARD units, external partners, and farmers to identify opportunities and barriers to market development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote the Farm-to-Family Program and facilitate market development for Michigan food and agricultural commodities.
  • Act as an expert resource for small and medium-sized growers and food businesses, sharing information, food industry norms, and best practices.
  • Serve as a liaison between current and prospective buyers, MDARD units, other state agencies, external partners, and farmers.
  • Identify opportunities and barriers to market development and assist with project development to address barriers.
  • Lead outreach and educational efforts for prospective buyers at different levels.
  • Work closely with the Farm-to-Family program team to develop and implement strategic plans for market opportunities.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any area.
  • Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Promotional Agent, including two years equivalent to a Promotional Agent P11 or one year equivalent to a Promotional Agent 12.

Qualifications

  • Experience in marketing, food systems, or related fields is implied by the experience requirements.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans and outreach efforts.
