Protocol QA Engineer

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Work on testing and debugging WiFi mesh networking equipment, including routers (Residential Gateway) and mesh extenders in both lab and real-life environments.
• Validate WiFi connectivity by testing peak and average throughput, maximum connectivity, airtime fairness, latency, rate-vs-range, mesh roaming, MU-MIMO performance, spatial consistency, and collecting RSSI and SINR data.
• Generate throughput, KPI, and other performance metrics and compile test reports to assist in preparing presentations.
• Write detailed test plans, test cases, and methodically document test steps and results.
• Work with professional lab test equipment such as Candela, Octoscope, Veriwave WiFi equipment, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
• Validate and compare multiple vendor equipment, including performing vendor-specific testing and validation.
• Write TR-069 related shell scripts to control WiFi devices, orchestrate test scenarios, and collect KPIs, modifying scripts to handle vendor differences.
• Create new test cases for chamber-based WiFi testing and automate CPE validation tasks.
• Perform CPE validation and automation tasks, including troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• Prior experience with WiFi performance testing is required.
• Familiarity with test equipment such as Octoscope, Candela, or Veriwave is a MUST.
• Good knowledge of RF concepts including splitters, attenuators, antennas, RF shielded boxes.
• Familiarity with lab test equipment like spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes.
• Good knowledge of TCP-IP, L2 networking, switches, and Wireshark debugging tools; familiarity with L3 networking/routers is a plus.
• Experience with device management protocols like TR-069.
• Ability to write shell scripts to validate CPE (TR-069 routers) on the network.
• Ability to customize scripts and run experiments per vendor, including handling differences in ports, WiFi radios, SSID packets.
• Background in software automation using tools like Python and Expect is a plus.
• Experience with debugging tools and root-cause analysis.
• Good problem-solving skills.

• Familiarity with L3 networking/routers.
• Background in software automation using tools like Python and Expect.

Qualifications

• Experience: 5-8 years in telecom wireless CPE and WiFi software.
