About the Role

The Senior Director of Business Development for the GX Customer Solutions Group at Mitsubishi Power will play a pivotal role in establishing Mitsubishi Power as the leading solutions and technology integrator in the rapidly evolving energy transition market across the Americas. This position involves leading early-stage project definition, integrating diverse Mitsubishi Power products into comprehensive GX solutions, and translating strategic vision into tangible project opportunities. The role includes providing leadership to the Pittsburgh-based team, fostering customer and partner relationships, and championing the 'One MHI' approach for decarbonized infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Mitsubishi Power's core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership.
  • Lead and strategically guide collaboration with Mitsubishi Power core business teams, other business units, R&D, and global entities to develop and advance integrated GX solutions tailored to customer needs across the Americas, emphasizing technical viability and execution strategy.
  • Provide technical and execution leadership for incubation of new GX ventures, such as Aero-derivative GT combined cycle offerings, guiding them through development, testing, and launch phases with a customer-centric approach.
  • Provide owner-side engineering advisory service and Board-level support for large Mitsubishi Power projects (e.g., ACES Delta) to ensure successful execution and substantial completion, leveraging technical insights for future GX opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, partners, and industry stakeholders to ensure solution relevance and market pull, expanding Mitsubishi Power's technical and product adoption.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure the success of strategic initiatives and drive team accountability.
  • Lead the development and execution of business development strategies from initial contact to project formation, ensuring alignment with Mitsubishi Power's GX vision and prioritizing sustainable customer benefits.
  • Coordinate with Project Development teams and Financial Analysts to ensure risk mitigation, optimized fund allocation, clear revenue forecasts, and proactive communication of financial liabilities.
  • Oversee and direct the development of a deep understanding of the GX market landscape, including technology trends, policy shifts, and customer needs across the Americas.
  • Collaborate with Mitsubishi Power's intelligence teams to provide GX-focused strategic direction and ensure comprehensive intelligence coverage.
  • Work with Mitsubishi Power's Strategy Team on strategic planning related to the energy transition.
  • Lead market research, competitive analysis, and customer segmentation activities to formulate a long-term vision and scenarios for the GX business environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering or a relevant technical field from an accredited college or university; a graduate degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of project management, project execution, or technical business development experience in the energy sector.
  • Relevant experience in large-scale project engineering, EPC management, and capital equipment sales.
  • 15+ years of experience in the Power Generation sector with deep knowledge of business development related to gas turbine technology, renewable energy integration, and carbon capture.
  • Demonstrated experience with the business development lifecycle, including key stage processes and funding impacts.
  • Successful negotiation experience for key project contracts such as partnership agreements, land acquisition, off-take, and feedstock agreements.
  • Deep understanding of engineering principles, related disciplines, and US and international codes and standards relevant to large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of energy technology markets, power markets, economics, and US energy policies.
  • Proficiency in project management scheduling and estimating tools such as MS Project or Primavera P6 is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with an ability to work effectively across cross-cultural teams.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship abilities, with experience managing professionals and driving complex projects.
  • Ability to travel frequently (up to 50%) within the Americas, including trips to Lake Mary and occasional international travel to Japan.
