About the Role

At Houston Methodist, the Sr. Director Development position is responsible for directing the fundraising efforts for an assigned constituency within the Houston Methodist System. The Sr. Director qualifies donor prospects and cultivates relationships with them to philanthropically support the mission of Houston Methodist. The Sr. Director is also responsible for cultivating relationships with volunteer leaders, physicians, and key hospital leaders to support all Foundation capital and comprehensive campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs, develops and implements strategic and operational/high level projects and processes either through independent work or through the facilitation of work teams to enable effective and efficient completion of objectives.
  • Identifies opportunities and builds strategic relationships between one's area and other departments, teams, and units to achieve business goals.
  • Maintains a portfolio of high-level prospective donors to Houston Methodist.
  • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards prospective major gift donors.
  • Leads and coordinates with the Donor Relations and Stewardship Department to support strategic enlistment and use of councils, volunteers, and events for Houston Methodist.
  • Oversees department operations, projects, schedules, and activities to ensure goals are met within prescribed time frames.
  • Sets priorities and functional standards, providing direction to staff to ensure high service quality and patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Serves as the liaison to designated service lines or key programs within the system.
  • Develops an accelerated pipeline of giving targets aligned with Foundation goals.
  • Ensures a safe and effective working environment, monitors safety plans, and ensures staff compliance with safety and ethical policies.
  • Develops and manages department budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Achieves personal and team fundraising targets and partners with leadership on annual goals.
  • Identifies and implements innovative solutions to improve department and system operations.
  • Builds relationships inside and outside the organization to enhance donor engagement.
  • Develops and executes strategies for obtaining major gifts and donor recognition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five years of successful fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to perform the job safely and effectively.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English, especially regarding safety and security.
  • Ability to interact confidently with others and modify behavior to accommodate tasks and individuals.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, critical thinking, and self-direction.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements impacting the department.
  • Strong communication skills, including written and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, facilitate groups, and build consensus.
  • Ability to manage projects and stakeholder communications effectively.
  • Proven success in soliciting and securing gifts and cultivating donor relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve conflicts professionally.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with academic medical centers and/or large universities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (required).
  • Master's degree (preferred).
  • Five years of successful fundraising experience.
