King Features is a premier producer and distributor of the world's most iconic intellectual properties and a leader in classic character licensing and franchise development. The company manages a portfolio including renowned brands such as Popeye, Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Hägar the Horrible, Moomin, Prince Valiant, and Mandrake the Magician. King Features produces content like The Cuphead Show! with Netflix Animation and distributes beloved comics, columns, editorial cartoons, and puzzles across multiple platforms globally. The Social Media Manager role involves leading organic content creation and paid social strategies to enhance the online presence and engagement of these iconic characters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategize and develop engaging, creative content (images, videos, copy) for our character IPs across social media platforms in alignment with each brand's goals and tone.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of social media accounts, including planning and executing content calendars and daily platform monitoring.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute strategies that grow social media following and drive engagement, including testing new content formats.
  • Conduct annual social media audits and present tailored strategy recommendations to senior management.
  • Engage with followers, respond to comments, and prioritize shareable content to cultivate a loyal community around our characters.
  • Spearhead efforts to incorporate AI tools in content development and performance analysis.
  • Track, analyze, and report on key performance metrics, providing insights to optimize strategies.
  • Conceptualize and execute social media campaigns, boosting strategies, and content tactics to increase awareness and growth.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic collaborations to increase visibility on social platforms.
  • Stay up-to-date with social media trends, platform updates, and emerging technologies to keep content relevant.
  • Build knowledge of the competitive character brand and licensing industry to inform content strategies.
  • Work closely with other teams (licensing, PR, product development) to align social media efforts with broader business goals.
  • Manage creative agencies, influencer partnerships, and external contributors as needed.
  • Provide social media expertise to support sales and internal presentations.
  • Support larger Brand Marketing and Licensing teams with creative and strategic tasks.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of proven experience in social media marketing and content creation for brands, ideally with character IPs or entertainment properties.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Hands-on expertise with social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter(X), TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest.
  • Experience managing creative agencies and contributors.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Final Cut Pro).
  • Basic knowledge of photography or videography to enhance content creation.
  • Interest in AI and understanding of its impact on content creation.
  • Familiarity with paid social media, including proficiency in Facebook Ads Manager.
  • Knowledge of social analytics tools with strong analytical skills and ability to interpret metrics.
  • Strong understanding of brand marketing and ability to develop content aligned with brand voice and guidelines.
  • Passion for pop culture, comics, and iconic characters like Popeye, Olive Oyl, Flash Gordon, The Phantom, and others.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive self-starter with curiosity about social media trends and platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for testing new ideas and formats.
  • Ability to receive constructive criticism and learn from feedback.
  • A team player able to work across multiple teams and brands in a fast-paced digital environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in influencer marketing or collaborations with social media influencers.

Qualifications

  • Educational background with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

Benefits & Perks

  • Base salary of $65k-70k, dependent on skills and experience.
  • Position based in NYC office with a minimum of 3 days a week onsite.
  • No remote flexibility.
