Job Description

About the Role

Fairview Specialty Pharmacy is seeking a strategic and experienced Specialty Pharmacy leader to serve as Senior Director, Payer Strategy & Market Development. This role leads payer-facing growth initiatives and analytics functions, ensuring Fairview remains a nationally competitive, value-based partner across health plans, PBMs, and employer coalitions. The ideal candidate brings deep, direct experience in PBM or Payer (Health Plan) environments, and can translate complex clinical, financial, and logistical considerations into actionable growth strategies, tailored payer solutions, and innovative reporting capabilities. This is not a contracting role—it requires someone who understands how to position specialty pharmacy in an evolving landscape, influence benefit and access strategy, and articulate market differentiation with confidence and credibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of a comprehensive payer strategy that aligns with Fairview Specialty's growth goals and market differentiation.
  • Launch innovative payer-facing products and services informed by market need, clinical dynamics, and emerging therapy trends.
  • Guide planning and positioning efforts for competitive payer opportunities, RFPs, and direct-to-employer contracting.
  • Partner with senior leaders across Fairview and M Health service lines to inform broader specialty strategy and revenue growth initiatives.
  • Direct the payer analytics team to deliver high-impact reporting that supports strategic decisions and differentiates the offering.
  • Lead development of actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders on cost, outcomes, and value.
  • Translate complex data into clear narratives that strengthen market positioning.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to health plans, employers, and internal leaders on trends, policy shifts, and pharmacy spend.
  • Co-lead key payer and employer account relationships to ensure satisfaction, retention, and long-term growth.
  • Deliver performance reviews in QBRs and executive engagements backed by data.
  • Oversee strategy and positioning for RFPs, RFIs, and renewal efforts.
  • Collaborate with contracting, clinical, and operational leaders to align deliverables and outcomes.
  • Lead end-to-end development of consultative and analytics-driven products that reduce costs, improve outcomes, and elevate market presence.
  • Champion internally developed tools that empower clients to act on clinical, logistic, and financial complexity related to specialty therapies.
  • Translate clinical and operational knowledge into scalable payer solutions.

Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. in Business Administration, Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Health Informatics, Economics, or Data Science (if combined with relevant healthcare experience).
  • 15 years of progressive leadership experience in pharmacy payer strategy within a specialty pharmacy, PBM, or managed care setting.
  • 7 years of prior experience with strategy development and account/client management.
  • 5 years of experience working with analytics in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • 7 years of experience directly leading a team.
  • Proven experience shaping strategy, executing against complex goals, and influencing executive stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of payer/PBM financial models, specialty drug market dynamics, and contracting strategies.
  • Strong track record of influencing external partners and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience with health outcomes, total costs of care analysis, and clinical/utilization analytics.
  • Ability to translate analytics into strategy and articulate value propositions.
  • Familiarity with healthcare claims data, data privacy laws, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Highly collaborative, entrepreneurial, and action-oriented with a proven ability to deliver innovative solutions in a dynamic environment.
