About the Role

The Associate Digital Communications Consultant will support the United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO) within the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) by managing digital content, enhancing social media engagement, maintaining the UNSDG photo database, and providing technical support for web platforms. The role involves contributing to storytelling, campaign visibility, and digital platform operationalization aligned with UN strategies and standards, with a focus on impact storytelling and multimedia approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively collect and curate high-quality visual assets from UN country teams, UN agencies, and headquarters, ensuring all visuals follow protocols and align with campaign priorities.
  • Engage regularly with field colleagues to encourage timely, high-impact photo submissions highlighting campaigns, human-centered stories, and country results.
  • Create, maintain, and organize the central photo and multimedia asset repository, including tagging, cataloging, and archiving content by country, theme, and campaign.
  • Support the development and delivery of compelling digital content such as social media posts, photo stories, and short videos that align with UNSDG messaging.
  • Assist in planning, producing, and rolling out multimedia assets to increase visibility and engagement across social media platforms.
  • Monitor engagement trends and campaign performance to help refine content strategies based on data insights.
  • Provide technical support and contribute to ongoing maintenance of the UNSDG and DCO websites, including content updates, platform integration, and backend tasks.
  • Support content uploads, stakeholder coordination, and ensure compliance with accessibility, SEO, multilingual standards, and security protocols.
  • Monitor KPIs and analyze digital engagement trends to generate insights that improve platform reach, functionality, and impact.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, computer science, graphic design, or a related field; or a first-level degree with two additional years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of two years (or four years with a Bachelor's degree) of progressively responsible experience in public information, digital content, web development, graphic design, motion graphics, or related areas.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects), Canva, or similar tools.
  • Experience coordinating with developers and editorial teams on multilingual web content using Drupal or similar CMS is desirable.
  • Proven experience producing multimedia content for websites and social media supporting multilateral initiatives is desirable.
  • Experience developing visual content for campaigns, reports, presentations, and social media with attention to layout, accessibility, and brand consistency is desirable.
  • Familiarity with digital performance tracking tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and ability to interpret engagement data is desirable.
  • Experience managing digital asset repositories and applying metadata/tagging systems is desirable.
  • Experience supporting virtual collaboration and platform management using Microsoft 365 tools is an asset.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with coordinating multilingual web content using Drupal or similar CMS.
  • Experience developing visual content for reports, presentations, and social media campaigns.
  • Familiarity with digital performance tracking tools like Google Analytics.
  • Experience supporting virtual collaboration platforms and tools such as Microsoft 365.
  • Skills in ethical and responsible use of AI for communications.

Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields or a first-level degree with additional experience.
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in digital content, web development, or related areas.
