About the Role

The Brand Alchemist is a hands-on brand executor responsible for translating Unity Environmental University's bold institutional strategy into daily, measurable brand outputs. This is a highly accountable, do-the-work position for someone who thrives in both creative and technical aspects of brand management. The role involves building and updating brand systems, running media campaigns, producing AI-optimized content, and shaping how Unity presents itself to prospective students, partners, and the world. The position is embedded in execution, developing content, managing platforms, deploying campaigns, and actively monitoring results, with a focus on maintaining brand coherence and power. It requires collaboration with senior leadership and responsible units across the university, with a fully in-person presence based in New Gloucester, Maine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute institutional strategy by building brand systems that unify creative, visual, and narrative identity across all units and delivery types.
  • Develop and maintain core brand infrastructure, including style guides, trademarks, templates, and other reusable brand assets.
  • Implement and update a brand architecture that supports Unity's primary brand and associated sub-brands, products, and partnerships.
  • Write, design, and maintain brand messaging pillars that reflect Unity's mission and differentiators across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate with responsible functions (e.g., Media Relations, Advancement, Recruiter) to proactively manage digital presence and brand reputation.
  • Plan, buy, and execute digital and traditional media campaigns across paid, organic, earned, and owned channels.
  • Lead internal brand enablement efforts, ensuring staff, faculty, and student ambassadors are trained and equipped to represent the Unity brand accurately and enthusiastically across channels.
  • Create and schedule daily brand content, managing publishing systems (e.g., Hootsuite or comparable platforms), and tracking engagement.
  • Produce AI-optimized content designed for discoverability and performance in search and generative platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini).
  • Provide internal teams with toolkits, templates, and resources to ensure consistency and quality in brand-aligned materials.
  • Use data to inform strategy, including tracking cost of acquisition, lifetime value, impression-to-inquiry performance, and conversion.
  • Implement and maintain systems for brand health tracking (e.g., NPS, sentiment analysis, awareness scores) and adjust based on findings.
  • Enforce brand governance through established review and approval workflows, ensuring internal compliance and external brand consistency.
  • Use AI and automation tools to streamline content development, testing, and publishing processes.
  • Pilot new tools and formats (e.g., AR, interactive video, microcontent) to expand brand engagement and innovation.
  • Act as the primary executor for all major creative and brand expressions.
  • Maintain a strong on-site presence to support collaboration, content creation, and alignment across teams.
  • Produce and maintain co-branding guides and asset kits for third-party partners and vendors.
  • Manage and monitor budget for brand activities, media spend, and creative production.
  • Drive organic brand visibility, ensuring Unity content and brand stories reach high-intent audiences, including those engaging with generative AI platforms.
  • Ensure brand integrity and coherence, serving as final approval for all major brand expressions and marketing assets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Branding, Business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in brand leadership, brand strategy, or marketing roles with proven accountability for multi-channel brand execution.
  • Proficiency with content scheduling and publishing tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social.
  • Experience executing and maintaining brand architecture and identity systems across multiple program lines, audiences, or business units.
  • Ability to run integrated marketing campaigns across paid, owned, earned, and organic channels with measurable outcomes.
  • Comfort using and interpreting brand performance metrics and analytics tools, including impression-to-inquiry ratios, sentiment tracking, and ROI modeling.
  • Hands-on proficiency with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva for Enterprise, and digital asset management systems.
  • Experience with social media management platforms like Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Slate) and their role in brand-aligned campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools for content creation, automation, or optimization (e.g., ChatGPT, Jasper, Midjourney, Copy.ai).
  • Strong writing and editing skills for creating clear, compelling, and AI-optimized digital content.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, deliverables, and content pipelines independently.
  • Commitment to maintaining an in-person presence at Unity's New Gloucester campus.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in Brand Strategy, Marketing, Design Strategy, or a related field.
  • Experience working in organizations undergoing rapid change, innovation, or restructuring.
  • Experience developing or applying co-branding and licensing frameworks across third-party partnerships.
  • Knowledge of AI discoverability strategies, including prompt engineering, schema markup, and content tagging for generative visibility.
