About the Role

This role is categorized as HYBRID, with the successful candidate expected to report to GM - Cadillac Tower three times per week. The General Motors brand is the foundation of four iconic vehicle brands, with over a century of creating the 'one for every drive.' As part of a marketing team setting industry standards, the Assistant Brand Manager will be responsible for representing the GM brand and story with clarity and distinction, driving brand growth, positioning, and stewardship across channels with purposeful, on-brand, and consistent communications. The role involves collaboration across the enterprise with various teams to ensure brand initiatives are executed to the highest standards and exploring emerging technologies like AI to enhance creative production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a brand steward, working cross-functionally with internal and agency teams to amplify GM's brand story through memorable, digestible, and shareable content, ensuring all marketing communications align with brand voice, visual identity, and messaging guidelines.
  • Support the production of effective marketing content through brief creation and constructive creative feedback.
  • Create brand guidelines, processes, and strategic frameworks that enable consistent brand expression across all touchpoints, developing tools and processes that help teams maintain brand integrity while fostering creative innovation.
  • Govern GM brand visual identity and provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as the GM brand voice, defending the corporate identity in cross-brand and cross-enterprise initiatives such as corporate events, signage, and sponsorships.
  • Manage GM Brand assets in a centralized asset library.
  • Own the GM.com narrative strategy, partnering with internal teams and UX to drive editorial calendar and publishing cadence.
  • Shape media and search strategies that are on-brand, aligned with best practices, and evaluate, refresh, and maintain search optimization strategies.
  • Embrace and explore emerging AI solutions to deliver creative production efficiencies.
  • Partner with the GM Research team on brand health research.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Applied Sciences on dashboard analytics for stakeholder reporting.
  • Support the development of presentation materials, status updates, and campaign reports for stakeholder meetings.
  • Stay up to date on the latest marketing trends and best practices within and outside the automotive industry.

Requirements

  • 4+ years working as a Marketer, Brand Strategist, Brand Planner, Brand Consultant, Advertising Manager, Content Strategist, Social Media Manager, or relevant role, preferably with experience from a leading agency or brand.
  • A familiarity with social content creation, including concepting, pitching, production, publishing, and measurement.
  • A strong writing background that demonstrates ability to articulate brand voice in social media and business needs.
  • A clear creative point of view and eye for visual storytelling.
  • Strong understanding of user needs, motivations, and behaviors, with the ability to translate them into engaging storytelling.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work efficiently and adapt to industry changes, including new technologies.
  • Proficiency with digital marketing tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor Degree required; preferred fields include Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Liberal Arts, or similar.
  • Must be able to be in the office in Warren, MI on a weekly basis.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with emerging technologies like AI solutions such as Runway, Adobe products, or similar.
  • Experience from a leading agency or brand in marketing or advertising roles.
  • Experience in visual storytelling and social content creation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Liberal Arts, or similar.
  • 4+ years of experience in the Marketing, Brand, or Advertising space.
