Job Description

About the Role

NatureWorks is on a mission to revolutionize plastics through sustainable, performance-driven materials. They are hiring a Business Development Manager to drive growth of their Ingeo PLA biopolymers. The role involves building new business, fostering strategic partnerships, and scaling adoption of environmentally friendly materials, with a focus on climate impact and materials innovation. The position offers the opportunity to work remotely or in Plymouth, MN, and involves engaging with various stakeholders across targeted markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and close top three prospects within the first 6 months, scope out two full value chains, and develop relationships with at least three early adopter customers in each.
  • Drive commercial development across targeted markets such as packaging, foodservice, consumer goods, nonwovens, and coatings, selling to converters, brand owners, and end users.
  • Actively generate leads through prospecting, cold/warm outreach, and industry events like trade shows and conferences to create a sales pipeline.
  • Engage with all stakeholders in the value chain—converters, downstream processors, and end users—to articulate the performance and environmental value of Ingeo PLA.
  • Lead contract negotiations with customers and downstream users to drive sales growth, gross margin, and volume expansion.
  • Collaborate with technical, commercial, and supply chain teams to align development efforts with customer needs.
  • Foster strategic partnerships and establish new channels to scale adoption of Ingeo PLA globally.

Requirements

  • 7+ years' experience in business development or B2B sales with proven success in bringing in new business.
  • Strong understanding of plastics transformation processes or relevant chemical/material applications.
  • Industry experience in plastics, coatings, or specialty papers.
  • Motivated by autonomy and energized by tackling ambiguity, suited for hunters rather than gatherers.
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive attitude with a track record of execution.
  • Creative, curious, and driven to uncover unmet customer needs.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, comfortable in both formal and informal settings.
  • Effective listener who can transfer insights to the broader team.
  • Competitive mindset paired with collaborative instincts.
  • Adaptable to dynamic market conditions and excited by rapid change.
  • Comfortable generating interest in products or solutions that may not yet exist.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in or understanding of the plastics, coatings, or specialty papers industries.
  • Experience with strategic partnership development and global scaling.

Qualifications

  • Educational background not explicitly specified, but extensive experience in business development or B2B sales is required.

Benefits & Perks

  • Base Salary: $125,000-$140,000
  • Commission/Bonus: Up to $100,000
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 160 hours vacation, plus paid holidays, sick time, and family sick leave
  • Parental leave and confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Robust retirement plan with 5.5% automatic company contribution and a 50% match on the first 6% of employee contributions
  • Car allowance
