The Business Development & Marketing Manager (Litigation) role involves strategic insights and tactical execution to support the Litigation Department's business development and marketing strategies, working closely with department leaders and the BD&M team to pursue revenue opportunities, deepen client relationships, and enhance profiles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute advice, actionable insights, and meaningful market analysis to the development and implementation of practice group strategies and business plans.
  • Work with practice group leaders, partners, and BD&M leadership to develop and execute marketing goals, initiatives, and strategies to support business development.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities within existing practice group clients and other firm clients and collaborate with team members and attorneys to expand client relationships.
  • Support practice group leaders in driving annual business and budget planning processes and manage follow-up throughout the year.
  • Create and drive strategies for responses to customized pitches, business development presentations, and RFPs.
  • Understand and support the pitch process, including competitive intelligence and research, to ensure strong intra-practice and industry group communication and client service opportunities.
  • Read industry, legal, and business publications to stay aware of trends impacting practice groups and identify business development opportunities.
  • Assist with the integration of lateral partners and counsel.
  • Create and update pitch materials, brochures, practice group descriptions, website content, experience lists, and other marketing collateral emphasizing value and client benefit.
  • Work with the communications and PR team to build the profile of practice groups through media opportunities, thought leadership, and publicity of news, events, articles, and client matters.
  • Produce and manage seminars, receptions, webinars, and other marketing events in coordination with the events marketing team.
  • Evaluate sponsorships and directory opportunities to maximize return on investment.
  • Provide coaching to attorneys to develop new business, expand relationships, and increase market demand.
  • Directly supervise a BD&M Specialist.
  • Build trusted relationships with attorneys and colleagues to develop and execute practice group plans and initiatives.
  • Recommend, direct, and support traditional marketing activities to position practice groups and the firm for success.
  • Coordinate with the BD&M Specialist to incorporate ROI mentality into projects and plans.

Requirements

  • Experience in business development and marketing within a legal or professional services environment.
  • Ability to develop and execute marketing strategies and initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret market data and industry trends.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience creating marketing collateral and managing events.
  • Ability to supervise team members and collaborate effectively with attorneys and leadership.
  • Proficiency in project management and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of legal industry practices and client relationship management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with legal practice group marketing and business development.
  • Familiarity with media relations and thought leadership development.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a marketing or business development team.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in legal or professional services marketing and business development.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic marketing plans and execute initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
