The Manager, Business Development & Marketing (BD&M) supports the firm's Litigation Department by providing strategic insights and executing initiatives to support business development and marketing strategies, with a focus on revenue growth, client relationships, and practice profile enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with the Litigation Senior BD&M Manager to develop and implement practice group strategies and business plans, utilizing project management and reporting tools to track progress.
  • Partner with practice group leaders, attorneys, and BD&M leadership to develop and execute marketing goals, initiatives, and strategies to support business development.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities within existing practice group clients and other firm clients, and work with team members and attorneys to expand client relationships.
  • Support practice group leaders by driving annual business and budget planning processes and managing follow-up activities throughout the year.
  • Create and manage responses to customized pitches, business development presentations, and RFPs.
  • Understand and support the pitch process, including competitive intelligence and research, to ensure effective intra-practice and industry communication.
  • Read industry, legal, and business publications to stay informed of trends impacting practice groups and identify business development opportunities.
  • Assist with the integration of lateral partners and counsel into the practice groups.
  • Conceptualize and communicate sophisticated services effectively to clients both in writing and orally.
  • Create and update marketing collateral such as pitch materials, brochures, website content, and experience lists.
  • Collaborate with the communications and PR team to build the profile of practice groups through media opportunities, thought leadership, and publicity.
  • Organize and produce seminars, receptions, webinars, and other marketing events in coordination with the events marketing team.
  • Evaluate sponsorships and directory participation opportunities to maximize return on investment.
  • Provide coaching to attorneys to develop new business, expand relationships, and increase market demand.
  • Supervise a BD&M Specialist and build productive relationships with attorneys and colleagues to execute practice group plans.
  • Recommend and support marketing activities to position practice groups and the firm for success.
  • Coordinate with the BD&M Specialist to incorporate ROI considerations into activities and expenditures, and evaluate investments for new and existing programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in business development, marketing, client management, or direct sales within a professional service firm.
  • Experience working with or understanding litigation-focused practice groups is strongly preferred.

Benefits & Perks

  • Salary ranges are provided based on geographic location, experience, and internal pay equity, with specific ranges for Milwaukee, Detroit & Salt Lake City ($113,500 - $170,300), Chicago, Dallas & Houston ($124,800 - $187,300), and Washington D.C. ($136,200 - $204,400).
