Job Description

About the Role

Throughout the course of the internship, the candidate will become involved in neighborhood planning, data collection and analysis, GIS mapping, program development and implementation as well as a host of special community development-oriented projects. To have a full internship experience, the Community Development Intern will play a multifaceted role, engaging in both community development initiatives as well as communications/marketing tasks. This role offers a comprehensive internship experience, allowing the intern to gain valuable skills in community development, as well as communications and marketing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement projects under the direction of the organization's Executive Director and other Staff, including neighborhood profile projects, research, and updating demographic data for targeted communities.
  • Create and maintain monthly reports related to economic development, commercial corridor business inventory, and development mapping of property, visitor data, and trends within the service area.
  • Assist Community Development Managers in implementing and coordinating human and social service programs in the service area.
  • Assist staff in providing technical assistance to stakeholders in the service area.
  • Create and maintain annual reports on overall projects and activities in the service area.
  • Assist in the holistic approach to community development, including special taxing district inventories, safety and security initiatives, Forest West property inventory, GIS mapping, and the Live Near Your Work Program.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify needs.
  • Assist in planning and executing community programs and events.
  • Create content for various social media channels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program or meet eligible requirements of an applicable internship program.
  • Communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, organizing, and prioritization skills.

Nice to Have

  • Willingness to commit to at least six months; timeframe is flexible if needed.

Qualifications

  • A diploma, certification or degree is not required.
  • No specific certification or work experience is required.
