About the Role

The Development Officer, New Business Development, manages US foundation fundraising and donor stewardship for a portfolio supporting domestic and international projects focused on fighting inequality through climate action, economic and racial justice, humanitarian response, and women's rights and gender justice. The role involves identifying funding opportunities, maintaining donor relationships, coordinating emergency fundraising, and collaborating across teams to align strategies with programmatic goals while ensuring compliance and effective knowledge management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire new US-based foundation donors with a minimum six-figure giving capacity by researching prospects, recommending solicitation strategies, developing cultivation materials, representing Oxfam at events, and managing funding opportunity processes.
  • Manage and grow an existing portfolio of US-based foundation donors through ongoing communication, tailored engagement, grant report submissions, proposal development, and renewal negotiations.
  • Prepare and edit donor-facing materials such as concept notes, grant proposals, budgets, letters, and reports; collaborate with finance and program staff on budgets; monitor reporting requirements and coordinate timely submissions.
  • Undertake donor-related travel to represent Oxfam and nurture donor relationships.
  • Coordinate emergency response fundraising efforts by preparing information for donors, engaging active and prospect donors on emergency efforts, and developing communication materials like newsletters.
  • Engage with Oxfam country/affiliate teams to learn about their work, share knowledge, and make programs appealing to funders.
  • Maintain records of donor engagement activities in Salesforce CRM.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of related experience with successful donor prospecting, stewardship, proposal development, and grants management for US foundation donors.
  • Superior writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management, organizational, planning, and administrative skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software, including Excel.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce CRM.
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic analysis and project planning.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • High degree of initiative and commitment to goal attainment and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices related to US foundations.
  • Knowledge of restricted funding budget construction and interpretation.
  • Certification in related fields or an associate's degree, or a combination of education and experience.

Nice to Have

  • Ability to communicate in French or Spanish.
  • Experience in an issue-oriented non-profit organization or in an international development organization.

Qualifications

  • Certification in related field(s) (preferably in writing, communications, political science, or international relations), or an associate's degree, or a combination of education and experience.
