About the Role

The Director of Digital Marketing & Experience at Dartmouth College serves as a key leader for digital marketing and communications strategy for the Geisel School of Medicine and the Office of Medical and Healthcare Advancement. The role involves driving marketing strategies, overseeing digital properties, developing campaigns, and creating cohesive audience experiences. The position balances strategic planning with hands-on tactical execution, emphasizing data-driven decision-making while aligning with the organization's values of community, innovation, and humanity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement impactful digital marketing and communications programs across media, platforms, and audiences in collaboration with MHA and Geisel Communications.
  • Lead digital experience initiatives across various platforms, systems, and tools, fostering collaboration with colleagues in Medical and Healthcare Advancement, Geisel School of Medicine, and Dartmouth Health.
  • Forge and sustain collaborative processes to advance strategic priorities, share insights, and build relationships with prospective and current students, faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and friends.
  • Create and execute digital marketing strategies and tactics to convey innovation and impact, strengthening enrollment, engagement, research, and philanthropy.
  • Develop strategies to disseminate, activate, and amplify content across web, social media, video, and content management systems.
  • Lead audience segmentation, targeting, and retargeting efforts to deliver relevant messages that inspire action.
  • Partner with admissions and enrollment teams to develop solutions that drive programmatic enrollment growth.
  • Build and lead a high-performing digital team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and quality.
  • Manage team goals, workflow, and professional development opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with institutional leaders, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Serve as a resource and consultant for communications staff, supporting content strategies and storytelling efforts.
  • Infuse philanthropy stories and videos into institutional communications to inform, cultivate, and motivate development constituencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to establish a vision for strategic transformation and contribute tactically.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in digital marketing, user experience strategy, paid/organic social, content management systems, audience segmentation, and marketing automation.
  • Proven track record of driving digital transformation within organizations or agencies.
  • Experience managing individuals and teams, fostering collaboration and partnership.
  • Ability to forge relationships across organizational structures, including with communications, IT, compliance, and other departments.
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility and compliance fundamentals.
  • Exceptional editorial, content development, and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific topics for lay audiences.
  • Strategic thinking aligned with audience needs and fundraising goals.
  • Initiative, self-motivation, and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience leading collaborative teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience in healthcare, research, or higher education environments.
  • Experience with Drupal, WordPress, or open-source CMSs.
  • Experience with marketing automation systems.
  • Experience with proprietary enterprise CRM/database systems.
  • Master's degree in a related field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (required).
  • Master's degree in a related field (preferred).
  • Seven years of experience in digital communications/marketing.

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive salary range of $114,400 to $143,000.
