About the Role

Almac Group is a privately owned organization with over 50 years of experience in drug development solutions, employing more than 7,500 personnel worldwide. The Head of Business Development (US) will be responsible for managing the US business development team within the Pharma Services division, working closely with senior management to develop strategies, improve win rates, and expand service offerings in line with the company's growth plans. The role involves ensuring the team is well-resourced, skilled, motivated, and capable of meeting or exceeding annual sales targets, while fostering long-term client partnerships and analyzing market trends.

Key Responsibilities

Assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the US business development team ensuring a pipeline of new business opportunities is developed and maintained that will meet or exceed annually defined sales targets.
Collaborate with operational colleagues to target appropriate business opportunities and foster positive partnerships for onboarding new clients.
Coordinate with different departments to identify potential areas for growth and develop strategies that align with company goals.
Review territory coverage and ensure the Business Development team are suitably skilled and resourced to prospect for new business opportunities.
Maintain and present BD KPI reports to Pharma Senior Management and provide clear, logically assessed recommendations.
Manage potential conversion opportunities to maximize win rates on proposals and ensure margin contributions meet company expectations.
Assess project scopes of work, capture extension requests and opportunities, and ensure they are covered with formal proposals.
Oversee the development of the customer base and business strategy by identifying and following up on potential leads, utilizing contacts, current customer base, referrals, and desk research.
Work with Corporate Contracts to establish or update legal agreements for all new business wins.

Requirements

BSc (or equivalent) qualification in a Science related discipline OR BSc (or equivalent) qualification in a Business Management related discipline with significant experience within the Pharmaceutical industry.
Previous 5+ years experience within a Business Development, Client/Account Management or Technical Project Management role within the Pharmaceutical industry.

Nice to Have

MSc or MBA (or equivalent) qualification.
Line management experience leading Business Development individuals.
Previous 5+ years experience with costing and proposal generation.
Previous experience in managing Business Development teams.
