Job Description

About the Role

The Hotel Director of Sales oversees the sales of the hotel's products and services, including banquet and restaurant sales. They supervise the sales department employees, participate in budget and marketing plan development, and promote the hotel through industry and civic organizations. The role involves managing sales activities, building customer relationships, and ensuring revenue goals are met to support the hotel's success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in preparation of the annual hotel budget and oversees development and implementation of marketing plans, special promotions, and occupancy-building ideas.
  • Tracks activities of the competition and market, communicates significant changes to the General Manager and Director of Operations.
  • Leads hotel sales department meetings and makes solicitation and service calls to promote and sell hotel, banquet, and restaurant facilities.
  • Prepares proposals and confirmations for group bookings, conducts property tours with prospective customers, and responds to inquiries from clients and the corporate office.
  • Informs other departments of upcoming events and collaborates to ensure proper planning throughout the property.
  • Maintains and utilizes the accounts tracing system/database and customer account files to generate future business.
  • Follows company credit and deposit policies when booking business and prepares sales reports and records activities.
  • Monitors guest satisfaction through follow-up surveys, thank you cards, and calls.
  • Meets or exceeds individual revenue and production goals set by the General Manager.
  • Ensures compliance with Human Resource policies, processes invoices timely, and follows purchasing policies.
  • Supervises 1-4 employees in the Sales Department, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and addressing employee issues.

Requirements

  • Experience in hotel sales or a related hospitality sales role.
  • Ability to make solicitation and service calls in person, via mail/email, and by telephone.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prepare proposals, conduct property tours, and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and databases related to sales and accounts management.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including standing, walking, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of sales policies, credit procedures, and customer service standards.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supervising a sales team in a hospitality environment.
  • Familiarity with hotel management software and CRM systems.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in hotel sales or hospitality industry preferred.
