If you enjoy working with team members whose defining characteristics are exceptional client service, initiative, professionalism, responsiveness, and adaptability, you may be the person we are seeking to join our Business Development and Marketing department in our Chicago, New York, Charlotte, or Washington, D.C. office, as a Manager: Business Development (Client Teams). This role will be primarily responsible for supporting Mayer Brown's Global Client Team program, which is a strategic priority of the Firm. This role will lead the business development and marketing efforts for a number of key client accounts and support program infrastructure. Our Client Teams program operates across practices and offices and works to ensure a consistent client-focused approach at the global and regional level. This role may also support relevant global industry groups and support other initiatives that align with the Firm's strategic plan and will require working closely and collaboratively with the rest of the Global Business Development and Marketing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and supports the implementation of key initiatives, including business plans, client satisfaction reviews, lawyer training and other initiatives to enhance business development efforts; engages in research, analysis and competitive intelligence-gathering for strategic planning, competitive firm positioning and business development activities; and provides direction and deployment support of various technology tools and related databases for assigned client team(s).
  • Finds opportunities to develop client-facing relationships with peer-level administrative commercial contacts, at key clients, to provide another trusted touch point in order to deepen and broaden the Mayer Brown-client relationship.
  • Collaborates with Business Development & Marketing department leadership and client team leaders to develop annual budgets to support initiatives outlined in business plan(s) or as outlined by leadership, including specifying key strategic and tactical objectives and means to achieve annual goals.
  • Manages day-to-day responsibilities to ensure that assignments and projects are properly managed and in alignment with the firm's overall strategic efforts, and that service to clients is exceptional.
  • Manages continuous communications and interaction with client team(s), including responsibility for periodic meetings, reports, analysis and progress monitoring.
  • Supports the onboarding and integration of lateral lawyers.
  • Manages and supports the implementation of key business development initiatives, including client targeting and campaigns, client satisfaction, client seminars and networking events.
  • Engages in research and analysis and competitive intelligence-gathering.
  • Supports the collection and maintenance of CRM-based contact and other data for marketing planning and mailing lists.
  • Supports coordination of business development training for lawyers.
  • Manages and supports responses to RFPs, and pitch, presentation, and other opportunities via the development of written proposal and presentation materials for assigned client team(s).
  • Provides support for seminars, sponsorships, and other events and initiatives pursued by the firm in your local office.
  • Assists with supervision and training of junior team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Six or more years of demonstrated success in a marketing, research, management, and/or communications-related field, either in professional services or comparable sectors.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of offerings.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and participating on video conferences in a professional setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors.
  • Assertive, self-motivated and able to operate with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and support the demanding needs of the Firm.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines with shifting priorities.
  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative.
  • Strong customer service skills, able to anticipate needs and exercise independent judgment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion.
  • Exercises solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with research techniques and databases used for competitive intelligence.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, team-first orientation, meticulous and results-driven.
  • Management experience including performance appraisals, goal setting, leadership, and operational budget analysis.
  • Ability to determine and implement workflow improvements and delegate effectively.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a professional services environment such as law, accounting, or consulting.
  • Experience with operational budget analysis and staffing analysis.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Six or more years of relevant professional experience.
