About the Role

The Manager, Business Development (MISO) at National Grid Ventures is responsible for supporting efforts to capitalize on investment opportunities in competitive transmission within ISOs and RTOs across the US, particularly in the MISO region. The role involves origination, development, and delivery of transmission projects, building strategic partnerships, leading bids, and shaping market strategies to secure NGV's long-term position. This hybrid position can be located in Brooklyn, NY, Boston, MA, or Waltham, MA, and emphasizes collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders to drive growth and market influence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct valuation and commercial analyses of emerging investment opportunities to develop a prioritized pipeline of potential projects.
  • Support the development of partnership strategy by identifying and assessing potential partnership opportunities, establishing strategic relationships, and preparing materials for partnership discussions.
  • Lead the development of competitive bid packages, driving bid strategy and coordinating across workstreams to ensure successful submission into solicitations.
  • Work with Commercial Strategy and Regulatory teams to shape RTO planning processes and secure NGV's long-term market position.
  • Develop materials for strategic meetings with executives and board members.
  • Monitor industry-related transmission policies and developments, working with stakeholder engagement teams to influence outcomes favorable to NGV.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape, advise on risks and opportunities, and recommend actions aligned with business strategy.
  • Gather and prepare information on projects to facilitate risk evaluation and decision-making.
  • Manage and develop a team of high-performing analysts.
  • Set clear performance goals and foster a trusting, inclusive environment encouraging diverse perspectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree (MA, MBA) preferred, with relevant experience in transmission infrastructure development, policy, or the energy industry (7+ years preferred).
  • Experience in business development, cultivating partnerships, and structuring partnership arrangements.
  • Knowledge of the US power industry and transmission development processes.
  • Familiarity with federal and state siting processes, FERC, and MISO policies is desirable.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience reviewing legal requirements related to large infrastructure projects, including real estate, regulatory filings, and commercial arrangements.
  • Detail-oriented with strong logical reasoning, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Financial modeling experience is desirable.
  • Advanced executive-level writing and PowerPoint skills highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with trends in generation, offshore wind, energy storage, transmission, and distributed generation is beneficial.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with FERC and MISO processes and policies.
  • Knowledge of recent trends in conventional generation, offshore wind, energy storage, and distributed generation.
  • Financial modeling skills.
  • Advanced PowerPoint and executive communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree (MA, MBA) preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in transmission infrastructure development, policy, or energy industry projects.

  • Salary range: New England MA $160,000 - $188,000 per year; Downstate NY $171,000 - $201,000 per year.
