Job Description

About the Role

JSG is seeking a remote-based Outside Business Development Executive for our client in the Tobacco or Beverage Distribution and sales industry, covering the Northern California territory. The role involves identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships with new and existing accounts in trade channels such as independent, chain, and distributor accounts, to achieve regional sales and revenue growth objectives. The position requires a focus on expanding market presence and supporting sales strategies within the specified territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifies new Independent, Chain, and Distributor accounts through research, referrals, and other trade activities that qualify as potential accounts.
  • Cultivates lasting and profitable partnerships with new prospects and existing accounts.
  • Contacts and establishes agreements with decision makers at assigned accounts to meet company and sales goals.
  • Interacts with customers via business correspondence, phone, Zoom, and in-person presentations.
  • Manages sales to existing accounts to meet or exceed company goals.
  • Provides monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on account performance, including goals, achievement percentages, risks, opportunities, and feedback.
  • Provides market feedback from assigned accounts to leadership to inform business decisions.
  • Participates in and supports trade shows for assigned accounts.
  • Develops a territory plan to maximize annual objectives by assessing potential accounts.
  • Plans and executes weekly and monthly calls with accounts, ensuring proper tools and resources are used.
  • Makes account calls adhering to call step procedures, recording conditions, and recapping work achieved.
  • Sells product lines to key decision makers to improve brand positioning and consumer awareness.
  • Maintains records and reports on sales orders, distribution, and merchandising activities.
  • Handles administrative tasks including travel planning and expense reporting.
  • Reports competitive activity to the National Director of Outside Sales.

Requirements

  • Customer service mindset to ensure quality support for internal and external partners.
  • Strong desire for learning and building a solid career foundation.
  • Ability to interpret and understand sales reports and internal data for sales presentations.
  • College degree preferred or 3 to 5 years of outside sales experience in the Tobacco industry calling on regional independents, chains, and distributor accounts.
  • Ability to accept strategic guidance from leadership and support account opportunities.
  • Ability to coordinate with the National Director of Outside Sales and support sales growth within assigned accounts.
  • Good oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Ability to travel up to 75% within the United States.
  • Ability to store and maintain sample products, displays, and POS materials.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in the Tobacco industry.
  • Experience calling on regional independents, chains, and distributor accounts.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred or 3 to 5 years of relevant outside sales experience.
