About the Role

The Regional Business Development Director (mid-west) is a field-based role responsible for the sale, adoption, and implementation of INTERCEPT-treated blood components within blood centers and hospitals, requiring close collaboration with key blood center members, hospitals, and internal Cerus teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate product and clinical expertise through a trusted, professional exchange of relevant and approved information with healthcare decision makers in areas including trauma surgery, invasive heart surgery, obstetrical emergency surgery, liver transplant, transfusion, hematology, oncology, and blood bank.
  • Achieve a pre-defined sales plan of revenue sales goals, actionable tasks, and milestones for the assigned region, and prepare reports by analyzing data and projections.
  • Lead medical, scientific, pharmacoeconomic, and operational understanding of INTERCEPT by executing medical education, economic analyses, and operational activities related to adoption and implementation.
  • Develop qualified leads and guide customers through the sales pipeline.
  • Enhance business relationships and product trust with hospital customers at various levels.
  • Build and maintain relationships with KOLs and other healthcare professionals in transfusion medicine and related specialties.
  • Develop and present clinical/scientific content for KOL/HCP interactions, medical congresses, hospital rounds, and educational programs.
  • Facilitate clinical education and operational processes for hospital implementation of INTERCEPT products with clinical stakeholders.
  • Support hospital adoption by developing scalable approaches and training plans for blood center teams.
  • Identify tools to support product positioning and coordinate with marketing on deliverables.
  • Develop hospital-facing educational programs and ensure quality end-to-end customer experience.
  • Respond appropriately to on and off-label questions with integrity and compliance.
  • Act as a liaison to Blood Bank IT and facilitate hospital data input and pharmacoeconomic modeling presentations.
  • Engage with hospital billing departments on coding, billing, and reimbursement information.
  • Provide continuing education content for hospital staff regarding INTERCEPT products.
  • Identify potential case studies and content for publications supporting product adoption.
  • Gather and communicate field feedback on clinical practices, operational issues, and competitive intelligence.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Maintain professional certifications and licenses.
  • Collaborate with field teams and sales operations to support sales targets and market penetration.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of clinical and/or blood center leadership experience in a hospital, scientific research, or medical science liaison role within transfusion medicine, hematology, blood banking, or blood safety.
  • Proven success working with key decision makers including physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, and C-suite staff in adopting new technologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of hospital operations and product approval processes via hospital committees.
  • Experience in developing and executing strategic plans to target multiple stakeholders and optimize resource allocation.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present clinical and scientific data to clinicians and stakeholders.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting materials for hospital review of new medical products.
  • Support hospital blood bank implementation processes.
  • Experience in developing KOLs and HCPs to support new medical technologies.
  • Effective communication skills across multiple disciplines.
  • Track record of closing deals and exceeding sales goals.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in the field.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer and internal relationships.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, goal-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting medical device development, sale, and marketing.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; advanced clinical degree (RN, MS, PharmD, PhD) preferred, with experience in transfusion medicine, surgery, oncology, or related fields highly desirable.

Nice to Have

  • Prior work experience in blood centers and hospital settings.
  • Successful sales experience in healthcare types such as transfusion medicine, anesthesiology, trauma surgery, heart surgery, obstetrical surgery, oncology, hematology, or organ transplant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; advanced clinical degree preferred (RN, MS, PharmD, PhD)
  • Experience in transfusion medicine, blood banking, or related fields highly desirable
