Sales Director

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Cultivates a respectful workplace maintaining and holding accountable the sales department to respect of attendance, performance, behavior, and common sense and judgment
• Develops and maintains marketing plan and sales budget with the General Manager
• Develops market segment strategies to prospect business for the hotel
• Provides sales training to front office staff, Sales Coordinator, and Sales Manager
• Participates in revenue management calls and strategies using reports, demand analysis, and other resources
• Schedules and completes sales appointments
• Attends business, community, and civic affair events in the local area
• Ensures teamwork and enhances cooperation between all departments
• Creates an effective sales team through training, mentoring, and participating in joint sales calls and blitzes
• Assists in rate and inventory strategy with GM, AGM, and Revenue Manager
• Acts as Manager on Duty for the hotel, resolving complaints, disturbances, and other issues
• Interviews, selects, trains, develops, and administers performance appraisals
• Negotiates hotel rates for LNR accounts based on room night volume and arrival/departure dates
• Secures group business, blocks rooms, sends contracts, and follows up on cut-off dates
• Works with operations team to greet group events
• Assists guests with meeting plans, schedules, and monitors functions
• Conducts property tours and explains amenities
• Assists with follow-up on room lists, direct billing, and other requirements of booked business
• Coordinates with kitchen staff for catered events
• Maintains sales files and ensures accurate entry in sales system
• Organizes work week with a strong prospecting plan targeting business for hotel dates
• Facilitates inside sales leads and develops sales strategies
• Follows company policies and procedures
• Ensures fair treatment and respect of employees and guests
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Minimum of six months hotel sales administrative experience or equivalent training and experience
• Interpersonal skills
• Guest service orientation
• Innate sense of urgency
• Adaptability
• Detail-oriented
• Proficient communication skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Advanced experience with personal computers and related software applications
• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Understanding of practices, techniques, and technologies related to hotel front office management
• Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, use hands, reach, communicate verbally, and hear
• Occasional use of sense of smell
• Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds
• Reasoning and basic mathematical abilities
• Ability to react quickly in emergency situations and make decisions involving safety or financial matters

Nice to Have

• Previous leadership or managerial experience
