About the Role

This position involves developing and pursuing Intelligent Mobility opportunities, including Transportation Operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems, traffic management centers, transit, and related programs in North America. The role is part of WSP's growing organization dedicated to meeting client objectives and solving transportation challenges. The Senior Business Development Director will oversee business acquisition, strategy, and growth within the Transportation Operations and ITS business line, contributing to innovative and multi-modal infrastructure projects across the U.S. The role may be based out of any mutually agreed WSP USA office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, oversight, and management of all aspects of existing and future business acquisition within the Transportation Operations and ITS business line.
  • Develop and oversee the capture of transportation market opportunities, introducing best practices and innovation to customers.
  • Contribute to the expansion of the Intelligent Mobility business to include additional related services where WSP has expertise.
  • Drive the long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of transportation operations, ITS, and other intelligent mobility work in the assigned area.
  • Capture the complete Transportation Operations, ITS, TMC, and transit market in North America.
  • Work through requirements to do business with various state and local markets.
  • Meet regularly with project managers to discuss progress and direction of the ITS business.
  • Act as the liaison with agencies for contract management and coordinate with subconsultants to fulfill contract duties.
  • Interface with representatives of other agencies/organizations to support business development opportunities.
  • Coordinate with technical leads on all subconsultants involved in pursuits.
  • Oversee the development of internal and external communications and growth strategies.
  • Prepare performance dashboards and reports in compliance with corporate requirements.
  • Lead national business development activities for ITS, including identifying project leads and developing pre-positioning plans.
  • Support local and national project delivery activities, maintaining WSP’s leadership in innovation and quality.
  • Support branding efforts through conference attendance, presentations, and research publications.
  • Serve as a representative/liaison to external entities including government agencies, clients, subcontractors, and industry groups.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 15 years overall experience.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in Transportation Operations, ITS, or similar roles.
  • Extensive experience managing projects from inception to completion.
  • At least 5 years' experience leading small to midsized teams.
  • At least 5 years' experience in writing and revising scope and cost proposals, developing procedures, and managing equipment, supplies, and recordkeeping.
  • Evidence of leadership qualities and ability to network with clients and industry professionals.
  • Active engagement in relevant industry organizations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and elicit cooperation from diverse sources, including senior management and clients.
  • Strong strategic lateral thinking and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work immediately in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Relevant bachelor's degree
  • 15+ years of professional experience
  • Experience in transportation sector, ITS, or related fields
  • Leadership experience managing teams and projects
  • Experience in proposal development and strategic planning
