About the Role

The Business Development & Strategic Partnerships team is accountable for driving membership growth and retention by expanding the Walmart+ value proposition through the creation and augmentation of member benefits, offers and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strategies and frameworks for developing key strategic partnerships that enable and accelerate new member acquisition and benefit utilization (and in turn, retention) amongst existing Walmart+ members.
  • Identify, structure, negotiate, and lead strategic discussions with prospective external partners across a wide array of businesses in several industries.
  • Generate data-driven business opportunities through business cases, by identifying program and project opportunities; determining program and project feasibility through data analysis; assessing the financial and physical performance of each program; and driving strategies with cross-functional teams to support and champion recommended partnerships.
  • Own and manage the full lifecycle of partner engagement, deal-making, and partnership implementation.
  • Lead/support contractual negotiations on key business terms with strategic partners by creating factual, rational, and compelling data-based insights and arguments and drive win-win outcomes for Walmart+, Walmart and partners.
  • Collaborate with several cross-functional internal teams: Legal team to execute new partnership contracts, Marketing team to develop marketing planning and content for socializing partner promotions across multiple digital assets, Product and engineering teams to include partnerships in product roadmaps, and communicate with Go-to-Market, Member Care, Fraud, Finance, Operations, Analytics teams to prepare for new business launches.
  • Own the discovery of partnership launch requirements and achieve alignment on project timelines, task schedules, and resources.
  • Define key reporting requirements to track success metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Analyze post-launch data to improve offer structures for future launches and assess the competitive landscape to identify new markets and partnership opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain roadmaps for partnerships that help accelerate customer acquisition and drive incremental value for the Walmart+ membership program.
  • Create and lead executive presentations for senior leadership and other stakeholders for alignment and approval on strategic partnerships.
  • Build and sustain relationships with key external partners and cross-functional internal stakeholders within Walmart.
  • Be the point of contact and leader for resolving complex partner escalations across different categories (e.g., financial, operational, technical, regulatory).
  • Establish guidelines and best practices to develop streamlined and scalable processes to ensure the smooth execution of partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or related field and 3 years' experience in business development, market development, product development, or relevant area OR 5 years' experience in business development, market development, product development, or related area.
  • A track record in business development, with experience managing the full partner lifecycle—from negotiation of key terms to contract execution and ongoing optimization.
  • Strong presentation capabilities, including the ability to develop and deliver compelling materials such as decks, financial models, and partner-facing content for leadership approval.
  • A talent for building trust quickly and translating across internal and external cross-functional teams.
  • Sharp analytical thinking, with the ability to gather and synthesize data from multiple sources to inform decisions around partner selection and offer structuring.
  • A results-driven mindset, using insights to refine offer structures, assess competitive landscapes, and identify new markets and partnership opportunities.
  • Proven project and stakeholder management skills, with a disciplined and organized approach to execution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences and levels of detail.
  • Strong relationship-building instincts and a collaborative spirit.
  • Agility in navigating shifting priorities, organizational change, and evolving responsibilities.
  • A values-driven approach aligned with Walmart's core principles: service to the customer (member), respect for the individual, striving for excellence, and acting with integrity.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in sales.
  • Master's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, or related field.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Working with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or related field and 3 years' experience in relevant areas OR 5 years' experience in relevant areas.
