About the Role

The Senior Social Media Content Strategist at the University of Georgia leads the strategic direction of the university's social media efforts to protect and enhance its reputation while advancing its mission and priorities. The role involves developing, executing, and optimizing social media strategies, managing the university's social media presence, leading crisis communication efforts, supporting digital advertising campaigns, and collaborating with various campus units to ensure cohesive and impactful digital communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor social media for pending or potential areas of concern and lead the social media emergency communications team during crises.
  • Provide strategic guidance for social media responses during emergency situations or moments of reputational concern.
  • Oversee and guide social media content strategy, ensuring alignment with UGA's institutional goals.
  • Attend editorial planning and strategy meetings to coordinate social media efforts.
  • Create, curate, and schedule engaging content for UGA's social media accounts, ensuring consistency with the overall communications strategy.
  • Manage the monthly social media calendar and oversee daily posting on each channel.
  • Participate in and provide social media coverage of campus events.
  • Monitor social channels for community engagement and conversation opportunities; respond appropriately to comments and messages.
  • Foster collaboration between the Marketing and Communications division and campus units to align efforts.
  • Monitor campus accounts and serve as a consultant to campus units on social media strategy and tactics.
  • Collaborate with creative, marketing, media relations, and content teams to produce organic and paid social media content.
  • Provide social media best practices guidance and training to campus counterparts.
  • Manage recruitment, training, and oversight of interns and assist with the Digital Dawgs student ambassador program.
  • Supervise and mentor the Social Media Manager, providing direction, feedback, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Support the execution of paid digital campaigns, review performance data, and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Coordinate with content creators and designers to deliver ad assets.
  • Manage projects using divisional project management software, ensuring timely delivery within budget and quality standards, and proofread content for clarity and correctness.

Requirements

  • Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in a related field.
  • Experience managing social media strategy for a brand or large organization for 4-6 years.
  • Proficiency with social media tools, analytics platforms, and content management systems.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading crisis communications.
  • Familiarity with digital advertising platforms such as Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, and YouTube.
  • Experience with project management platforms.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple content streams in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage issues and crisis communications.
  • Experience with issues management and crisis communications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include at least a baccalaureate degree in a related field.
