Job Description

About the Role

The internship is UNPAID and may be either full-time or part-time, with flexible work location options including remote outside the duty station or hybrid arrangements at the UN Premises in New York, United States. The role involves supporting social media content creation, media monitoring, and various communication tasks under the supervision of the Public Information Officer. Interns will assist with social media updates, visual content creation, media analysis, video editing, graphic design, and event organization, contributing to the UNMAS division's outreach and communication efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create content for social media as dictated by the monthly editorial calendar.
  • Update UNMAS social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.).
  • Assist in creating visuals for social media and digital platforms.
  • Create social media analytics reports.
  • Assist in creating and editing videos using Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
  • Assist with graphic design, photography, and photo editing.
  • Assist in monitoring media coverage of mine action and international relations issues.
  • Research, compile, draft, and edit basic information for media material.
  • Liaise with public information focal points in UNMAS field programmes.
  • Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist with organizing events, website management, and mailing public information materials.
  • Attend and summarize conferences and meetings.
  • Assist in maintaining databases.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
  • Or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • A field of study closely related to the internship is required.
  • Good knowledge of video editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
  • Good knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.).
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of French or other UN official languages.

Qualifications

  • Current pursuit or completion of a graduate or undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Proof of academic enrollment or completion required at a later stage.
  • Official certificate required later in the process.
