About the Role

The Social Media Intern will support the District Attorney Department's communication efforts by crafting digital content, handling social media platforms, and assisting in public outreach. This position is ideal for someone interested in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build basic graphics using Canva for use on official social media platforms.
  • Draft, schedule, and publish social media content to advise the public about community events, awareness and prevention campaigns, employee spotlights, internal recognitions, case updates, and public safety announcements.
  • Monitor and engage with the public on Facebook and Instagram, including responding to comments and interacting with community partners.
  • Identify and moderate content that violates the office's Social Media Policy, including hiding or removing inappropriate comments or posts.
  • Review and recommend updates to the Social Media Policy to ensure compliance with standard processes and current trends.
  • Attend public events, community meetings, or office photo opportunities to gather content for social media—or coordinate with staff to obtain appropriate images and messaging.
  • Maintain and update Linktree to ensure accurate and accessible public information, such as adding links during awareness months.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Facebook and Instagram.
  • Basic design skills and experience using Canva or similar tools.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills, particularly for public-facing content.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work within the standards and responsibilities of a government agency.
  • Understanding of appropriate tone, privacy considerations, and messaging when representing a law enforcement agency.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with social media content creation and management.
  • Knowledge of social media policies and best practices for government or law enforcement agencies.
