About the Role

The Social Media Specialist at Macomb Community College works directly with current students, faculty, and staff to highlight the student and campus experience on social media video platforms. The role involves producing engaging, shareable content to build brand awareness and drive engagement, maintaining a consistent social media presence, and staying current with emerging social channels and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists the Marketing team to build content for the social media calendar.
  • Identifies social video content that can be cross promoted on the college's other social platforms.
  • Brainstorms content ideas that complement advertising campaigns and promotes recruitment and college events to prospective students.
  • Suggests and implements creative ways to increase engagement.
  • Collaborates with student facing departments to create content for YouTube Shorts, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • Attends events during and/or after business hours to capture “real-time” content.
  • Obtains and documents students' consent for appearing on social media video platforms.
  • Maintains a consistent “on campus” presence to generate fun, impromptu student content.
  • Creates, edits, and publishes short-form video content (TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels) and Instagram Stories and highlights.
  • Creates and maintains a unique content calendar for Instagram Stories and TikTok.
  • Tracks, documents, and analyzes engagement, follows, shares, and other social data.
  • Provides detailed metrics to assess content performance.
  • Stays current with emerging social channels and suggests creative ways to attract more viewers.
  • Attends webinars, reviews blogs and articles, researches, and applies best practices to the college's social media strategy.
  • Documents industry trends, reports findings, and makes recommendations for social media platforms.
  • Researches emerging platforms and assesses fit for the college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 1-3 years of related experience in social media management, building social presence for a brand.
  • Experience curating content across various social media platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, and other emerging social platforms.
  • A strong understanding of the various audience types and social media best practices to optimize engagement.

Nice to Have

  • Advertising, Marketing, Communications or related area preferred.
